We have a great client that is looking for a Program Director in the surrounding Detroit, MI area

Seeking a Program Director whose efforts will be focused on leading program cadence meetings, developing project timing plans, supporting prototype builds and leading the program management department. The winning candidate will work cross functionally with Engineering, Manufacturing, Purchasing, Quality and Operations organizations to assure corporate goals, milestones and timelines are completed efficiently. This position will report to the Chief Product Officer.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Schedule and lead program cadence meetings to report on program status.
  • Develop program level timing plans, lead, track, and report progress to plan and drive solutions to address any identified gaps.
  • Communicate status and the big picture to the program team and executive management.
  • Drive the daily activities of the program management team to meet overall program/project objectives and focus on process within product definition and engineering design cycles. This should include tasks such as:
    • Supporting prototype builds, testing, and validation to meet production timing.
    • Identifying and prioritizing project tasks and risks, driving engineering discussions and decisions on critical system parameters.
    • Identify multi-functional design dependencies and risks.
    • Influence and negotiate project architecture and design with system teams to ensure proper scoping.
  • Provide leadership on other high-priority projects related to product development as assigned.
  • Hands-on participation in the recruitment, hiring, onboarding and training of key personnel as necessary and appropriate.

Education, Skills and Knowledge

  • Bachelor's degree (B.A) from an accredited four (4) year college program in engineering, business, management or related field. A graduate level degree is a definite plus but not required.
  • Cross functional experience with Engineering, Manufacturing, Purchasing, Quality and Operations
  • Program Management Professional (PMP) certification is preferred but not required.
  • 12 -15 years of progressive automotive program management experience, preferably in a fast paced, high volume or similar environments, with at least four (4) years in a management role with significant multi-site experience.
  • Strong ability to teach, coach and mentor team members and future leaders.
  • Must have prior knowledge of, working experience with, and previous responsibility for commonly used monthly, quarterly and annual financial statements and budgets as well as budget variances and related corrective/remedial processes.
  • Confident, but not arrogant, “can do” attitude and demeanor, delegates, when necessary and appropriate, but instinctively “trusts” and “verifies”, demanding and uncompromising but always fair and equitable, passionate, and driven agent for continuous improvement, change and success.
  • Should be “hands-on”, hard-working, self-motivated and, more often than not, self-directed, should rarely need to be “coached up” and/or redirected.
  • Strong management, administrative and organizational skills and the ability to multi-task and stay cool under pressure.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to relate to and work with both internal and external customers, alike, at all levels.
