LOD Staffing has openings for Sheet Metal Mechanic Assistant 

Location:

Near San Pedro Ave Area, San Antonio TX 

FLSA:

Non-Exempt

Grade/Level:

Experienced 1+ years

Travel Required:

None

Work Schedule:

Monday – Friday, Occasional Weekends, 7am – 5pm but must be flexible with hours and days 

Rate of Pay:

$15 - $20/hr Depending on Experience

 

The Sheet Metal Mechanic Assist is responsible for providing support for the Sheet Metal Mechanic by assisting with but not limited to HVAC Duct fabrication, assembly, installation, and repairs of sheet metal equipment, products and structures. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Works alongside the sheet metal mechanic following their direction and assisting with installations according to blueprints
  • Helps set up / operate soldering and welding equipment, and fabrication machines. 
  • Fabricates, assembles, installs, and repairs sheet metal ducts, parts, equipment, and products using hand tools, power tools, machines, and other equipment
  • Load, transport, unload, and furnish sheet metal mechanics with materials, tools, equipment, and supplies. 
  • Clean the work area and restock supplies and materials as necessary.
  • May erect scaffolding. 
  • Assist with lifting, positioning, and securing of materials and workpieces during installation.
  • Perform minor maintenance, repair, and cleaning activities of tools and equipment. 
  • Smooth seams, joints, or burred surfaces using files or grinders

Minimum Qualifications

  • Must have basic tools: Aviation snips, screwdrivers, seamers, sheet metal hammer, ratchet/socket set
  • Must have 1+ year recent experience working with Sheet Metal / HVAC 
  • Must have own transportation and valid Driver's License
  • Must be able to pass background check 
  • Must be able to pass drug screening
  • Knowledge of manual tools such as hammers, wrenches, sockets, drills, tape measures, levels
  • Basic math skills and ability to use a calculator for percentages, division, multiplication
  • Ability to understand and carry out work orders
  • Able to lift 50 – 80 lbs.
  • Must be able to work in all weather conditions and environmental conditions, position is generally outdoors
  • Steel-toed shoes, a hard hat and a vest are required
  • The ability to communicate in English is required
  • Must be flexible with schedule.  Work hours and work days may vary depending on the needs of the business and deadlines to finish the project. 

Working Environment

Must be able to work in an outdoor environment with exposure to harsh smells, loud noise, and all types of temperatures.  Are often exposed to sounds and noise levels that are distracting or uncomfortable. Are sometimes exposed to very hot or very cold temperatures when working outdoors. Must be able to lift to 80 lbs.  

Physical and Mental Requirements

  • Exerting up to 80 pounds of force occasionally, and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects, including the human body.
  • Must be able to stand, walk, sit, handle, reach outward, reach above shoulder, crawl, squat/Kneel, bend, push, and pull frequently. Maintain body equilibrium to prevent falling when walking, standing, or crouching on a work surface.
  • Ability to use upper and lower extremities to move or transport 25 to 80 pounds, including pressing against something to force it in a forward, downward, or outward position or drag, haul 25 to 80 pounds
  • Ability to bend the body downward and forward by bending the spine at the waist, bending legs at the knees and moving extremities in any direction
  • Ability to withstand physical demands on the body, including being in a stationary and/or standing position most of the day
  • Ability to express and exchange ideas using the spoken word, including where detailed or important spoken instructions must be conveyed to other workers accurately, loudly, or quickly
  • Ability to understand, remember, and apply oral and/or written instructions or other information

  • Sense of Sound (answering phone, fire alarms, horns)
