POSITION SUMMARY

The Tax Manager will be responsible for ensuring compliance with state, federal, and international tax law through a series of systems and system controls designed to ensure accurate and timely reporting through quality tax services to help maintain the level of Rosenbauer’s reputation. The Tax Manager will own and manage the tax process to the highest standards by creating and implementing tax plans, and works with the accounting and leadership team to identify opportunities for process improvement and potential areas of risk. They will monitor current and impending changes to tax regulation and make the appropriate updates to policies and strategies. This individual will own and streamline the process of working with tax professionals at the public accounting firm.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

The scope and duties of a given position may change or be temporarily altered based on the business needs of Rosenbauer.

  1. Have working knowledge of the US Tax Code and ability to effectively communicate with the company’s public accountants to facilitate and manage accurate preparation and timely filings of all company consolidated tax returns including federal, state, and local income tax returns, and other business-related filings.
  2. Find and implement opportunities for process improvement in company tax procedures including development and implementation of strategic tax planning for all necessary federal and state taxes.
  3. Plan for and develop overall return calendar and coordinate timing and inputs with the public accounting firm. Maintain effective control procedures over all aspects of the tax process.
  4. Manage and facilitate IRS income tax audits: preparing responses, creating schedules, etc.
  5. Monitor legislative and regulatory tax law developments, communicate the effects of these developments to management and communicate with our public accountants to create strategies to capitalize on changes to taxation legislation. Review tax returns, current structure of tax returns, and quarterly/yearly tax projections to perform tax planning and development of methods to optimize them.
  6. Provide support with various internal audits and special tax related projects and maintain and manage company’s all tax documentation to ensure it is accurate and up to date.
  7. Identify and develop mitigation strategies for tax risks.
  8. Maintain Company’s tax balances on general ledger.
  9. Own all and any compliance matters in terms of licensing requirements whether they are local or nationwide. We have many requirements in different states where we must maintain certain licenses in order to do business.
  10. Assist with development and maintenance of internal controls surrounding financial processes of the company.
  11. Be a champion for driving compliance with these internal controls and act as a liaison with the internal audit department at Corporate.
  12. Performs other duties and responsibilities as required by management to meet the needs of the company.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES (KSA’S):

Knowledge, Education, and/or Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting/taxation required.
  • Master’s degree in accounting, finance, or business administration preferred.
  • CPA license preferred.
  • 3-5 years of experience in a tax manager role required.
  • Excellent knowledge of tax accounting, tax compliance and all types of tax returns including tax code, U.S. Federal, State, and local reporting requirements required.
  • Extensive individuals/corporate/partnership tax knowledge required.
  • Experience working with multiple legal entities under different legal umbrellas preferred.

  • Able to read, reason, and interpret financial reports and legal documents.
  • Able to respond to common inquiries from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of our business community.
  • Able to effectively communicate information related to benefits of tax initiatives to any level of the organization, including top management.

Math:

  • Able to apply advanced math concepts such as elementary differential equations, probability, programming, and statistics related to finance.
  • Able to develop budgets and track budget expenditures.

Computer:

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
