About the role:

Under general supervision, the Accounting Specialist will handle various accounting tasks, including processing and analyzing commission statements and reports to meet business needs. Key responsibilities involve transacting or importing and posting commission statements into the Agency Management System (AMS), balancing statements against AMS, and recording variances. The role includes resolving unbilled policies, unidentified commissions, and Direct Bill suspense items. The specialist ensures correct commission rates, communicates with the client service team, and escalates unresolved items per guidelines. The ideal candidate for this role has a high attention to detail, skilled in multitasking, customer service, communication, and independent decision-making skills.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Transact or import and post non-download commission statements manually in Agency Management System
  • Balance the commissions statements against AMS and properly record the variance
  • Research and drive resolution for unbilled policies
  • Ensure the correct commission rates are entered in the AMS
  • Research and resolve Direct Bill suspense items on a periodic basis
  • Thoroughly research and drive resolution for unidentified commissions
  • Communicate with the client service team to resolve exceptions.
  • Escalate unresolved items to supervisor per pre-determined aging timeline
  • Learn and understand commonly used terms in the insurance industry
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor

Education and Experience Requirements:

This position requires a high school diploma or equivalent and 2-4 years experience in Accounting/Finance or a related field.

Skill Requirements:

  • Strong attention to detail
  • Applicant should have knowledge of commonly used Accounting concepts, practices and procedures
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint)
  • Able to multi-task
  • Strong customer service skills: a desire and ability to deliver information accurately and on time
  • Strong communicator; must be able to convey complex ideas in a clear and concise manner
  • Ability to learn Brightway systems and regularly update activities accurately
  • Uses independent judgment and decision making to complete some tasks
  • Ability to learn, embrace and put into practice new concepts and skills
  • Able to gather and analyze facts and data to solve complex problems, draw inferences, weigh alternatives and present logical solutions
  • Experienced at managing own time, activities, and resources; mentors others to do the same
  • Team player: must be able to contribute to the team and rely on others to achieve objectives
