SUMMARY

The billing specialist is responsible for coordinating the activity for assigned accounts, ensuring payment and/or resolution about standing account balances. He/she communicates with patients and third-party agencies to assist in the resolution about standing account balances, complete and maintains timely, accurate reports of account activity, as well as response to incoming calls and mail from patient and third-party agencies regarding outstanding account balances.

REQUIREMENTS

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Minimum of two years of experience with third-party reimbursement requirements
  • Ability to work independently and prioritize responsibilities
  • Must be able to organize, have time management skills
  • Must be able to read, write, and speak as well as possess verbal and communication skills

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Receiving incoming phone calls/mail from patients and third parties assisting in the resolution of accounts receivable.
  • Properly performs and utilizes medic tech, financial models, and any applicable system required
  • Review reports about standing account to determine appropriate actions required to obtain payment for outstanding balances.
  • Coordinates the generation of patient statements and/or third-party bill necessary for collection of outstanding balances.
  • Patient accounts, as appropriate, to prompt actions and documents activity.
  • Works intra and inter departmentally to ensure cost-effective utility.
  • Assist patients in making payment arrangements
  • Receives and answers in increase from patients insurance companies, Medicare, and other parties regarding billing
  • Her recommendations for the resolution of account balances, examples: Flat rate adjustments, write offs, charity, referrals, etc.
  • Works cooperative with other department staff to determine appropriate course of actions to assist patients with the resolution of outstanding account balances
  • Maintains account information, permanent collection activity on all accounts and missions and referrals
  • Review billing for Completeness accuracy
  • Promotes environmental and patient safety
    • Makes provision for clean organized environment
    • Constantly observes for unsafe conditions
    • Report safety issues in a timely manner
    • Has knowledge of general safety department and service safety and specific job hazardous
    • Demonstrates proper body mechanics In all functions
  • Promoting use of departmental supplies and equipment via:
    1. Ensure equipment is in good working order
    2. Reports equipment problems to appropriate personal promptly
