We are seeking a Sr. Vice President of Health Information (HI) Career Advancement to serve HI Professionals and their careers. This role will report to the CEO.


What does this role do at AHIMA?

The Sr. Vice President, HI Career Advancement leads the organization's efforts in assessing the professional and educational needs of the HI workforce, creating, and delivering the knowledge sharing, training and certification strategy aimed at the career advancement of HI Professionals.

This position will assist the Department of Communications and Marketing with messaging and branding of AHIMA and its offerings to the HI profession. Their office will be the primary point of contact for Health Information workforce related issues and concerns.

The incumbent is responsible for ensuring that practicing HI Professionals are equipped with the knowledge, training, certifications, and other educational experiences to meet current and future industry needs across the healthcare continuum.

We're looking for a transformative leader and strategic visionary who can navigate the challenges of today and anticipate the requirements of the future, who will possess the ability to build strong and effective internal and external partnerships and provide strategic leadership to their sphere of influence.


What are the essential duties and responsibilities?

  • In collaboration with the SVP Academic Affairs and Professional Credentials, lead the collection and synthesis of legislative, policy and technological changes and their impact on the profession.
  • Lead the development of training, certification structure and other learning content that results in advancing the skills HI Professionals possess.
  • Oversee the development and delivery of effective AHIMA training offerings that complement higher education programs.
  • Lead the credentialing strategy for HI Professionals.
  • Leads the creation of the career map, career pathways, and related resources and initiatives to support the career progression(s) for HI professionals.
  • Ensures business operational goals, including P&L targets, are achieved.
  • Provide leadership oversight and direction of the CEE and other volunteer groups to ensure associated activities and deliverables align with strategic and operational goals.

What are the knowledge and skills requirements?

  • Minimum 5 years' experience overseeing competency and educational program development.
  • Minimum 10 years strategic executive management experience.
  • Master's degree required; PhD preferred.
  • Subject matter expertise in HI.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and effective application of andragogy.
  • Direct P&L responsibility experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate with all constituents, both internally and externally.
  • Current membership in AHIMA preferred.
  • Certifications such as RHIA or RHIT preferred.
