Since 1971, Hampton-Newport News Community Services Board has provided a comprehensive continuum of high-quality, essential, and community-based services to citizens of the Peninsula who are living with a mental illness, developmental disabilities, and substance use disorders.

What would you do as a Direct Care Associate II

At the Hampton-Newport News Community Services Board Residential Services, the commitment to person-centered thinking is at the forefront of our mission, ensuring that individuals are truly at the heart of all care and support provided. Operating a network of six waiver group homes in Hampton and Newport News, we focus on empowering residents to master daily living activities while actively engaging with their community. Our comprehensive range of services, including self-help, community integration, socialization, and independent living support, are designed to foster growth and independence. With 24-hour on-site supervision, individual bedrooms, nursing services, and personal support, we create a nurturing environment that promotes safety and well-being.

Additionally, our use of adaptive equipment and quality furnishings further enhances the living experience, enabling individuals to lead fulfilling lives while enjoying the comforts of a supportive home.

What matters most

To thrive as a Full Time Direct Care Associate II at the Hampton-Newport News Community Services Board, several essential skills and qualifications are necessary. A minimum of one year of direct care experience working with adults living with an Intellectual and Developmental Disability or mental illness is vital, as it equips you with the knowledge and empathy to provide quality support. A Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) designation is a plus, adding to your expertise in healthcare provision. Strong communication and interpersonal skills are crucial, enabling you to build trust and rapport with residents effectively. Additionally, a valid Driver's License is required, as transportation may be necessary for community integration activities.

Adaptability in utilizing software and tools for care documentation and monitoring is also beneficial, ensuring seamless coordination of services and fostering a safe and supportive environment for all individuals served.

Knowledge and skills required for the position are:

  • One year of direct care experience working with adults living with an Intellectual and Developmental Disability or mental illness. CNA a plus. Valid Driver's License
