Employment Information: Full time, 10-month, bargaining unit position


Professional Profile:


Speech-Language Pathologists are expected to work with students to develop communicative competence, language skills, and maximize their potential for using listening and spoken language. The expectation is that they understand and support the students' preferred communication modality and the school's communication philosophy.

It is expected that Speech-Language Pathologists are up to date with current research and literature in speech pathology, language development, audiology, assistive technology (including cochlear implants) and augmentative communication devices. They should be willing to learn, grow and work collaboratively with other staff.


Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in the area of speech pathology from an accredited university.
  • PA license and CCC preferred; will consider CFY.
  • Possession of or eligibility for appropriate certification from the Pennsylvania Department of Education.
  • Intermediate + level American Sign Language competence (SLPI) preferred.
  • Knowledge and/or experience in language development, pragmatics and parameters of communication, and amplification systems.
  • Understanding and acceptance of communication principles which emphasize full accessibility to all communication in the school environment, the importance of self-expression and respect for each individual’s communication needs.
  • Experience with augmentative communication preferred.
  • Understanding of and experience with various assessment tools and report writing (e.g. evaluation reports, progress reports, IEP contributions).
  • Experience and background with profoundly deaf students and deaf culture is preferred.
  • Understanding of and experience with a culturally and linguistically diverse population.
  • Experience working with students in the preschool through high school age range is preferred.
  • Experience working in an educational setting, including knowledge of the MDE/RR and IEP development process is desired.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with other professionals.

Responsibilities:

  • Speech-Language Pathologists serve a student population ranging in age from Early Childhood through High School and are assigned to support specific instructional teams.
  • Speech-Language Pathologists work with students in individual and small group situations, in both “pull-out” and integrated contexts.
  • Speech-Language Pathologists are responsible for providing direct speech and communication services to students; the development and implementation of RRs and IEPs; evaluations; communicating regularly with the students' classroom teacher(s) and families.

  • Willingness to travel within the state, to travel overnight, and to work occasional evenings and weekends.
  • Sitting, standing, walking, frequent bending, crouching, reaching, stooping.
  • Lifting and moving of lighter objects such as books, chairs, student desks.
  • Manual dexterity skills for using office equipment.
  • Ability to read and attend to computer screens for long periods of time.
