Responsibilities of an Assistant Chef:
- Lend consistent, reliable, and detail-oriented support to the Director of Dining Services in the preparation and presentation of gourmet meals.
- Collaborate with the Director and Sous Chef on the development of weekly menu items.
- Build positive and collaborative relationships with the members of the IL Team and Resident Community.
- Maintain the current Serv-Safe sanitation certificate on file with the Director of Dining Services and Human Resources Department. The assistant chef must help to ensure that all aspects of food preparation as well as the dining experience remain consistent with sanitation standards.
- Be responsible for all duties pertaining to food preparation and procedural storage as well as safe handling of all food and beverage products as directed by the Director of Culinary Services.
- Maintain a sanitary and visually inviting kitchen workspace.
- Follow all kitchen procedures and attend to all Westbrooke Clubhouse opening and closing procedures.
- Learn to greet the Residents by name and pay close attention to Resident food allergies and culinary preferences.
- Actively assist in the delivery of an excellent dining experience for the resident community when the Director of Dining Services is absent.
- Communicate and collaborate regularly with the Director of Dining Services regarding special needs, challenges, service standards, suggestions for improving our product, and personal and/or professional development.
- Assist the Director and Sous Chef to supervise and direct the Westbrooke Clubhouse Dining Services Team during and outside of the dinner hour.
- Actively manage the Head Server and the Dishwasher when the Director and Sous Chef are absent.
- Receive and check-in orders from suppliers and unpack and organize food items. Manage and communicate with contractors as needed.
- Inspect kitchen at opening and/or close of shift and immediately address any sanitation issues so that Westbrooke is continuously "Health Department Inspection Ready."
Requirements of an Assistant Chef:
- 2 or more years' experience in food service.
- Excellent communication skills and customer service.
- Current Serv-Safe certification or the ability to obtain upon hire is required.
