Position Summary|


The Maintenance Technician I is responsible for executing task to keep machines, mechanical equipment, or structure of the markets in peak working condition. This position supports both Lexington Market Inc. and Baltimore Public Markets Corporation.
The Maintenance Technician I perform general maintenance and upkeep of market buildings. The Maintenance Technician I possess the ability to recognize and immediately address issues that may present safety concerns or can lead to hazardous conditions. Timely and efficient upkeep of building electrical, mechanical, and plumbing systems is required. Performs work involving electrical, electronics, heating and air conditioning, locksmithing, plumbing, carpentry, painting, construction, or welding.


Responsibilities|


  • Diagnose maintenance problems and perform minor and major repairs and preventative maintenance procedures in Lexington Market Inc. and Baltimore Public Markets Corporation.
  • Routine maintenance, such as drain systems, inspecting drives, motors, belts, checking fluid levels,replacing filters, or doing other preventive maintenance actions.
  • Construct, rebuild and repair market facilities including various wood and metal structures, equipmentand furniture; prepare surfaces for painting and varnishing and apply surface coverings as required.
  • Estimate cost of labor and materials for work orders; obtain competitive prices forequipment and supplies needed by Lexington and Baltimore Public Markets.
  • Execute building maintenance including repairs to doors, windows, and other building parts; constructor assemble furniture and other wood and metal structures; install and maintain electronic lock systems and electrical security systems.
  • Operate equipment and machines including saws, drill presses and various hand and power tools to perform repair and maintenance work; maintain tools and equipment in a safe, clean and proper working condition.
  • Assure compliance with appropriate safety practices and procedures and with applicable federal, state, and local codes, regulations, and requirements.
  • Complete groundskeeping functions for all the markets such as lawns, outdoor areas, and snow.
  • Maintaining the building HVAC equipment to keep climate control in the facility functioning properly.
  • Attention to detail to ensure that all jobs are completed in an exemplary manner and any potential hazards or warning signs of problems are not overlooked.
  • Physical stamina to handle a full shift of being active and working on market locations.


Skills|


  • Equipment Maintenance – Performing routine maintenance on equipment and determining when and what kind of maintenance is needed.
  • Trade tools, equipment, materials, methods, and techniques used in skilled and general maintenance and repair involving at least three of the following: electrical, electronics, heating and air conditioning, locksmithing, plumbing, carpentry, painting, or welding.
  • Troubleshooting- determining causes of operating errors and deciding what to do about it.
  • Critical Thinking – Using logic and reasoning to Identify the strengths and weakness of alternative solutions, conclusions, or approaches to problems.
  • Basic record-keeping techniques.
  • Federal, State, and local building codes and regulations.


Attributes|


  • Extensive knowledge of building systems such as plumbing, electrical, and HVAC.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to identify issues and determine repairs that are needed.
  • Ability to plan maintenance schedules for building systems.
  • Excellent management and supervisory skills.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite
