We are hiring for the $1.6 billion High Speed Rail project that is constructing the first high-speed rail system in our nation. Harris & Associates and PGH Wong are the joint-venture team working for the California High Speed Rail Authority to deliver the first 29-mile segment of this historic project—which has become a model for success across the United States.
Position Summary
The Field Engineer will be responsible for supporting the Construction Manager, on-site, in seeing that the project is constructed in accordance with the approved plans and specifications.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
- Provide photographic records.
- Be able to read and understand architectural, structural, and civil drawings
- Be able to redline drawings and pictures using adobe acrobat
- Track completed work; and assist in reviewing contractor’s progress payments
- Provide field support services for submittals, RFIs, and requests for contract change orders.
- Notify the resident engineer of any observed non-conformances and assist in the issuance of non-conformance reports as required.
- Participate in and/or conduct planning, preconstruction, coordination, progress, scheduling and field staff meetings.
- Review plans, specifications, submittals, shop drawings, change orders, constructability reviews and contract closeout records.
- Assist in detecting and resolving disputes and/or problems
- Respond to complaints from the public
- Ensure that all required tests, operations, measurements, and inspections are scheduled, ordered, staff working on progress payments by verifying and preparing quantity and progress estimates.
- Maintain records on unit price quantities, labor, equipment and progress for change order work.
- Review change orders for implementation.
- Make field measurements and maintain as-built drawing records.
- Conduct and/or witness testing of contract material, equipment, and installations.
- Report safety and traffic hazards, defective work and debris to the contractor for correction.
Qualifications and Experience
- Minimum 7 years of relevant work experience
- 5+ years of verifiable full-time experience in construction inspection work, including two years of experience as a construction inspector working in an urban environment.
- Familiarity with transit industry standards, practices, and regulations is helpful.
- Valid driver's license with satisfactory driving record
Skills and Competencies:
- Potential to perform in a lead capacity.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Must be proficient in the use of Excel and MSWord.
- Ability to work in a cooperative team environment.
Compensation & Benefits
Salary $120K-$170K B.O.E
