Kohl Children's Museum of Greater Chicago is a nonprofit organization whose mission is to provide experiences and memories to build a foundation for a lifetime of learning. Through our museum space in Glenview, IL, we offer engaging learning environments featuring interactive exhibits and programs that encourage young children to become effective learners through play. As part of our commitment to ensuring that every child has access to the best learning experiences possible, we extend our footprint throughout the Chicagoland area through outreach programs, traveling exhibits, and partnering with educators to inspire meaningful change in the education of young children.

The Senior Exhibit Guide supports the Director of Visitor Experience and the Managers in implementing and completing daily operational duties as well as acting as a mentor to Exhibit Guides and Volunteers.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Perform Customer Service operations and interactions on the museum floor
  • Support Exhibit Guides by managing breaks and lunch periods and covering floor support as needed
  • Facilitate a variety of programs on the museum floor and in Habitat Park
  • Amicably resolve matters involving dissatisfied guests, involving managers when appropriate
  • Recognize and report visitor trends
  • Maintain storage spaces and inventory current consumable stock
  • Assist in supervision of birthday parties, field trips, facility rentals, and special events, including checking in guests, opening party rooms, and informing guests of Museum rules
  • Support the front desk, when necessary, by effectively using Point of Sale (POS) system to sell admission tickets, memberships, special event tickets, and respond to patrons’ questions or requests
  • Monitor Museum entrance and exits to ensure visitor safety
  • Mentor, coach, and be a positive role model for the Visitor Experience staff and volunteers

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • None

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Maintain current knowledge of operational procedures and Museum and member information
  • Support the facilitation of new staff orientation, staff meetings and training sessions
  • Complete data entry projects as needed
  • Perform other duties as assigned by Visitor Experience management team

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE WILL POSSESS THE FOLLOWING:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Minimum of 1 year of work experience in a customer service and/or retail role
  • Experience in a Museum environment preferred
  • Experience handling cash and/or operating cash registers
  • Excellent customer service skills and proficiency in conflict resolution; experience coaching staff on performance matters
  • Friendly demeanor and ability to work with individuals of all levels of an organization
  • Proficiency in office technology and software (Microsoft Office suite)
  • Familiarity with database management or Point-of-Sale system preferred
  • Must have flexibility with work schedule, as necessary, to support weekend scheduling and/or evening activities
