Vulcan is a division of Illinois Tool Works (ITW), and is recognized by chefs and operators around the world as the best-in-class supplier for premier, energy-efficient foodservice equipment, we are seeking a strategic, innovative and energetic Director of New Product Development & New Technologies. This is an in office position based in Baltimore, MD.
Job Description- Lead the New Cooking Product Development Center of Excellence (COE) Team creating a dynamic product development environment that ensures differentiation, speed to market and financial requirements.
- Develop and build a high functioning team of engineers to carry out COE objectives. Attract and retain high caliber innovation talent.
- Provide technical guidance and leadership to the engineering team relevant to the design, management and coordination of activities for the new product development of innovative cooking products.
- Own the innovation pipeline and implement a pipeline prioritization model with visibility to Short/Mid/Long term projects
- Lead advanced research and development of new technologies and new innovations based on market and customer research, needs, pain points, requirements and regional standards.
- Ensure NPD Projects follow ITW’s Customer Back Innovation Process.
- Work closely with Marketing and Sales teams to keep abreast of new technologies and products being introduced into the marketplace.
- Ensure NPD projects are based on solving customer pain points and market requirements, leveraging customer insights as part of the Customer Back Innovation Process.
- Effectively manage project development schedules, budgets, technical specifications, and documentation to close on time, scope and budget.
- Work closely with European counterparts to leverage global product platform development.
- Own the step level improvement of major attributes (i.e. energy consumption) focused on key equipment and key competitors.
- Manage all aspects of Intellectual Property including identification/creation of new technologies, making decisions regarding the filing of patents for protecting ITW Food Equipment Group and maintain a consistent high-level of knowledge about competitive patents.
- Collaborate and guide manufacturing personnel to ensure projects are properly reviewed, assigned, and executed.
Education: BS in Engineering required (BSME preferred)
Experience & Skills:
- 10+ years engineering experience developing cooking equipment in an equipment manufacturing environment with hands-on new product development experience required.
- 10+ years of progressive management experience in engineering, setting strategic direction and product development.
- History of bringing to market innovative new products.
- Broad engineering background encompassing multiple disciplines including mechanical, electrical, quality and controls development.
- Solid understanding, experience and application of Stage Gate process.
- Excellent communicator who exhibits strong, verbal, written, and presentation skills.
- Proficiency in MS Excel, PowerPoint, Word and Outlook required.
- An assertive, results-oriented leader who is a consummate team player and who can effectively negotiate with others to achieve win-win outcomes.
- Has strong market and customer orientation.
- Analytical and structured working approach.
- Proven ability to lead teams and projects.
