Lebanon, United States Skjodt-Barrett Foods Full time
Job DescriptionJob Description

Who we are

Skjodt-Barrett is a world-class manufacturer of food solutions and custom ingredients for North America's most beloved and trusted brands. We take pride in working closely with our customers to understand their unique needs and create innovative, individualized solutions that deliver joy to their customers.

A family-founded company started over 35 years ago, we are backed by the investment company Axel Johnson Inc (AJI). With their investment and support, we are well-positioned to foster growth and explore new opportunities.

Our customers, blue-chip international brands and mid-sized producers alike, are why we exist. Our teams of innovators, communicators, and managers are the people who meet their needs, build trust, and exceed their expectations.

Who we need

Reporting to the Systems Engineer, we are looking for a Process and Controls Technician with experience in electrical and mechanical work to join our team. You will be responsible for all aspects of machine maintenance and repair in the plant, focusing on the custom ingredient processing section. You will troubleshoot mechanical and electrical issues, repair processing equipment, and collaborate with Production Supervisors and the Manager. You will be part of a new machine and process automation initiative.

This is a day shift, Monday through Friday, 7AM - 4PM. This position requires on-call duties as necessary.

What’s in it for you

Impact. This is an opportunity to significantly impact the efficiency of our production and the safety of our team. By ensuring the timely and thorough discovery, repair, and testing of machinery, you will contribute to maintaining our high safety and quality standards. It’s a chance to apply and further develop your problem-solving and collaboration skills as you respond to unexpected challenges, identify areas for improvement, and recommend new processes and solutions.

Career development. At Skjodt-Barrett, we value the drive to bring ideas to life and the resilience to be accountable for your actions. We have a proven history of promoting our people with career paths starting on the plant floor or in administration and growing into people and plant leadership roles. This is a chance to build a fulfilling career, starting with completing an apprenticeship and moving into a lead role.

How you will make an impact:

  • Maintain computer-controlled equipment. You will set up and maintain computer-controlled equipment, such as processing tanks, pumps, fillers, homogenizers, liquefiers, admix, and emulsifiers. Your responsibilities will include starting up, testing, shutting down, and troubleshooting various machines, as well as conducting routine preventive maintenance.
  • Optimize. You will draw on your electronic system knowledge to maximize the usage of food processing equipment. You will detect and repair irregularities and malfunctions with machinery and equipment, replacing defective parts as needed.
  • Solve. You will act as a first-level escalation support for the maintenance team, troubleshooting and repairing all hardware or control software systems within the facility, locally or remotely. You will respond to emergency work requests and propose and implement solutions to ensure that all activities can be completed in a timely manner.
  • Collaborate. You will work closely with maintenance and engineering teams, communicating the functionality of machinery and equipment status.

What you bring to the role:

  • The experience. You have exposure to the food production industry as an Industrial Process or Maintenance technician. You have a fundamental understanding of how controls and systems in a food production environment work and relate. You are skilled in troubleshooting electrical and mechanical issues. You have operated high-speed machinery and have direct experience working with process pumps, process valves, plant steam, and CIP systems. You have used a work order management system such as CMMS. Ideally, you are familiar with Allen Bradley PLCs and Drives.
  • The drive. You are naturally curious and have strong problem-solving and decision-making skills. You are highly organized and excel at job task planning. You have a continuous learning mindset, always seeking opportunities to increase your knowledge and gain more information.
  • The flexibility. You are willing to stay and be compensated for extra hours to complete a repair, respond to phone requests for troubleshooting and repairs, and work overtime to ensure the machinery operates optimally.
  • The interpersonal skills. You have professional and flexible verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to follow and share directions and explain processes. You can build strong working relationships across levels and teams. You genuinely appreciate diverse experiences and backgrounds and are interested in understanding others, hearing their perspectives, and addressing their concerns.
