Chesapeake, United States Prison Fellowship Full time
Job DescriptionJob Description

Want to make a difference? Join an organization that has been transforming lives for over 40 years

As a Christian non-profit, Prison Fellowship® trains and inspires churches and communities—inside and outside of prison—to support the restoration of those affected by incarceration. We equip correctional leaders, volunteers, and incarcerated men and women to make prisons more rehabilitative places; we advocate for a more restorative criminal justice system; and we collaborate with churches and local service providers to support former prisoners, their families, and their communities.

Prison Fellowship® is an organization committed to the highest standards of conduct, ethics and Christian values. Our conduct is guided by and grounded in the Bible, as reflected in our Statement of Faith below.

What we are looking for:
A driven and mission focused men’s prison Program Counselor to provide instruction of the Prison Fellowship Academy curriculum at the St. Bride's Correctional Institution for men in Chesapeake, VA.

Expectations of this role:
  • Maintain an active relationship with Jesus Christ and support the ministry through prayer and actions
  • Provide instruction of the PF Academy curriculum using adult learning techniques
  • Conduct regularly scheduled one-on-one progress meetings with participants to assess needs and track progress to goals
  • Maintain and create case files and performance agreements; consult with staff on release plans
  • Develop, maintain, communicate, monitor, and adjust master schedule for all Academy activities to include scheduling and supervision of volunteers
  • Screen and place volunteer teachers and facilitators
  • Promote and maintain positive working relationships within the prison setting
Qualifications:
  • Demonstrated ability to provide case planning and management for program participants within the prison
  • 3+ years of experience working with at-risk individuals, people who are incarcerated, or other relevant population
  • College degree in Behavioral Science or equivalent relevant experience
  • Cross cultural sensitivity and experience
  • Training and experience with substance abuse/recovery process
  • Excellent written and oral communication/presentation skills
  • Ability and willingness to travel up to 5%
  • Region may require employees to complete their COVID-19 vaccination series or have an approved exception to the requirement due to a medical condition or sincerely held religious belief. Successful candidates for this position may be asked to submit vaccination documentation or be approved for an exception prior to their first day of employment. Failure to provide proof of full documentation or receipt of an approved exception will lead to withdrawal of the job offer
What we offer:
At Prison Fellowship, our goal is to support the total well-being of all our employees. Our benefit offerings for full-time employees include health, dental, vision, life, and disability insurance, retirement account funding, flexible spending accounts, paid maternity and parental leave benefits, and more. Our outstanding benefits package includes paid leave starting at 39 days (14 holidays, 15 vacation days, 10 sick days) after one year of employment. Part-time employees working at least 20 hours per week on a regular basis are eligible for select offerings, not inclusive of health benefits, on a pro-rated basis. In addition, we offer a team-oriented, mission-driven, supportive environment with cutting-edge technology solutions and tremendous opportunity for growth and development.

Salary at Prison Fellowship is determined by a variety of factors. For this position, the salary range is projected to be between $59,000 and $62,000.
