NASA Marshall Space Flight Center

Looking for a Data Engineer to support the Information, Data, and Analytics Services (IDAS) Service line in NASA’s Office of the Chief Information Officer (OCIO).

Your role:

  • Design and develop scalable ETL pipelines to extract, transform, and load data from various sources into data warehouses.
  • Optimize data pipelines for performance and efficiency. implement and maintain data storage solutions, including data lakes and data warehouses.
  • Ensure data quality through validation and cleansing processes.
  • Manage metadata and data lineage.
  • Implement robust data security measures to protect sensitive information.
  • Ensure compliance with data protection regulations and NASA policies.
  • Collaborate with data scientists, analysts, and other stakeholders to understand and address data needs.
  • Provide technical support for data-related issues.
  • Document data architecture, processes, and workflows.
  • Maintain technical documentation for data systems and pipelines.
  • Provide regular progress reports to project managers and stakeholders.

Your responsibilities:

  • Deliver Functional and Optimized Data Pipelines - well-designed and efficient ETL pipelines that extract, transform, and load data from various sources into the data warehouse.
  • Implement and maintain data storage solutions to include data lake houses, warehouses, or lakes as defined by the DAS Lead Architect.
  • Deliver Records of collaboration and support activities provided to stakeholders. To include the following, meeting minutes and action items from collaborative sessions, logs of technical support provided and issues resolved, and feedback and requirements gathered from stakeholders
  • Deliver Detailed documentation of data architecture, processes, workflows, and technical aspects, to include data architecture diagrams and descriptions, process flowcharts and narratives, and technical documentation for data systems and pipelines.

Your background:

  • Bachelor’s degree in STEM field and minimum of 5 years of related experience
  • Experience developing ETL pipelines
  • Experience with data lake and data warehouse solutions
  • Experience with Cloud native solutions
  • Experience working in technical areas including data science, structured data, analytics, SQL
  • Bachelor’s degree in STEM field
  • Excellent problem-solving skills

  • Having or pursuing Master’s degree in a STEM field
