General Summary

This position includes the development, implementation, and management of training programs in the affiliate with a primary focus on Patient Services. Under the direction of the Director of Education and Learning, the Clinical Training Manager will be responsible for creating and delivering and evaluating the Patient Service’s clinical training program in accordance with our accreditation standards and requirements and ensures all learning experiences are inclusive, affirming, and equitable and representative of PPSO’s mission and values. Trainings will be customized to prepare PPSO health center staff and clinicians for their roles as health care providers.

The candidate will be a confident public speaker, training program developer, and a devoted health educator who is up to date on the latest health equity tools and resources needed to improve employee training and performance.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Clinical Training Program

  • Work with the Patient Services Leadership Team to set goals, objectives, and standards for the Patient Services Annual Training Program; including comprehensive onboarding materials, curricula, manual, onboarding documents, timelines, and evaluation criteria to meet training goals and objectives
  • Create training and onboarding materials for Patient Services staff including; RNs, Health Center Assistants (HCAs), Health Center Receptionists, Health Center Managers, Clinicians, and other trainings set by Education & Learning Leadership, Patient Services Leadership Team and the Patient Services Annual Training Program.
  • Ability to maintain working knowledge of relevant Patient Services Policies, Protocols and Procedures with health center operations; knowledge of health center process to deliver quality health care visits.
  • Create clinical training strategies, initiatives, and materials in accordance with the Planned Parenthood Medical Standards and Guidelines
  • Consult managers and leadership regarding organizational clinical training priorities and needs on an ongoing basis.
  • Seeks innovative approaches for delivering and facilitating training, including group training, one-on-one training, online training and external training opportunities.

Training

  • Design and conduct clinical training that enhances Patient Services Department staff workplace performance and competencies in alignment with the organization’s core values.
  • Collaborates with Health Center Mangers to determine best practice for Health Center Assistant and Health Center Receptionist training.
  • Provides clinical training such as but not limited to phlebotomy, injections, precepting, IV’s, minimal and moderate sedation, and ultrasound (train the trainer provided for ultrasound learning).
  • Partners with the Equity and Culture Director to ensure Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) principles are woven throughout trainings.
  • Acclimate new hires in the Patient Service team to the organization including Health Center managers, Registered Nurses and Clinicians, and plan and conduct clinical/managerial orientation sessions.
  • Collaborating with the Medical Director, Associate Medical Director, Clinician Supervisor and Patient Services Director, integrate privileging and ongoing competency assessments into the onboarding plan and yearly training schedules.
  • Provide training sessions to managers (train-the-trainers).
  • Contact and utilize outside vendors and resources for instructional technology as needed.
  • Maintains external and community contacts who can assist in helping to meet PPSO’s training needs.
  • Pilot and review created materials, learning and making updates on an ongoing basis.
  • Conduct individual training sessions with staff as needed or requested by the supervisors and leadership.
  • Independently manage multiple priorities, while maintaining high-level of service for internal Patient Services staff.
  • Collaborate with Electronic Health Records and Informatics Manager to deliver EHR onboarding and ongoing training.
  • Collaborate with the Billing and Coding Department to deliver onboarding and training.
  • Proficiency in computer skills, Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Excel), and instructional software.

Monitoring and Evaluation

  • Maintain personnel training documents in accordance with Human Resources and Risk Quality Compliance Plan.
  • Ensure clinical staff personnel folders are up to date on a monthly basis.
  • Assess training effectiveness to ensure incorporation of taught skills and techniques Review employee performance and learning in collaboration with managers.
  • Administer training evaluations and make recommendations for process improvement.
  • Maintain a database of all training materials and employee onboarding documentation in collaboration with HR.

Other duties as assigned:

  • Actively participates in the delivery of reproductive health services including abortion care, one day per week. Participation can include, but is not limited to, referrals, information, education, counseling, dispensing, etc.

The job is not supervisory in nature.

Qualifications

Minimum Education and/or Experience

  • Position requires a current Oregon license as a registered nurse and current BLS certificate.
  • 2+ years' experience in teaching, including virtual platforms and in person training.
  • 2+ years' experience in direct patient care post licensure.
  • 1+ years’ experience in development of policies and standardized procedures.
  • ACLS at hire or willingness to obtain, upon hiring.

Preferred Education and Experience

  • Proficiency in Spanish is preferred. Ability to successfully complete a language proficiency skills test at a level 2 or high intermediate rating.
  • 2+ years' experience in health education.
  • 2+ years' experience in delivery of training programs.
  • 2+ years' experience in developing content and/or curriculum desired
  • 2+ years' experience in program management.
  • 1+ year experience with adult learning and training principles.
  • 1+ year experience demonstrating knowledge of health equity frameworks.
  • 4+ years' experience in direct patient care.
  • 4+ years' experience teaching , including virtual training platforms and in person training2+ years’ experience in reproductive and/or sexual health care.
  • 3+ years’ experience in development of policies and standardized procedures.

Travel Requirements:

This position requires travel between different PPSO health centers on an as-needed basis. Travel to health centers that are not the employee’s primary location will be reimbursed in accordance with PPSO’s travel policies.

Availability

During peak activity periods work in excess of 8 hours per day and/or 40 hours per week. Job will involve evening hours and possibly weekend hours as well as early morning meetings. Job may require evening and weekend work. This position is hybrid with in-person requirement in clinic on abortion procedure days.
