JOB SUMMARY

The Product Development Manager is an enthusiastic and driven professional who supports all aspects of bringing new products to market. The role will cross the Product Development lifecycle – including competitive assessment, formula development, timelines and project tracking, packaging development, regulatory filing, and launch support. The successful candidate will be energetic, ambitious, detail-oriented, self-motivated, and passionate about haircare, styling, and beauty.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Support and help execute all portions of the two-year innovation pipeline across CORE, COLOR and LIFESTYLE
  • Support ongoing formula development and new product innovations in the haircare category
  • Evaluate submissions, provide, gather, document, and organize feedback from key testers (including internal team + salons) for formula direction
  • Track and organize lab submissions, product testing, feedback, and articulating redirects back to labs
  • Build and maintain effective and strong relationships with contract manufacturers and 3rd party vendors, with the opportunity to lead formula direction and communication
  • Ensure adherence to formulation blacklists – requesting prelim ingredient lists, reading through and spotting if something is inconsistent with our standards
  • Ensure adherence to cost targets by requesting formula quotes and flagging if something is inconsistent
  • Lead internal communication with cross-functional partners as it relates to product briefs, formula evaluation, shade selections, copy and claims, artwork, and regulatory deliverables
  • Monitor and maintain on-time delivery of critical project milestones, update and track PD timelines
  • Leads the post-formula approval process by alerting the cross-functional team and suppliers, coordinating all bulk and samples for all testing (consumer in use/claims, Safety/RIPT, water activity, etc.)
  • Drive on-time market samples and comps for retailer partners
  • Support claims testing process by researching competitive product claims, drafting unique claims and questionnaires
  • With guidance, organize, coordinate, and oversee internal claims testing, including product ordering, outreach, data gathering and synthesizing findings, report writing
  • Artwork Proofing – with extreme attention to detail, review all artwork proofs to ensure the copy, claims, translations, and ingredient lists are consistent with PARB and copy document
  • Create product dossiers and other product support assets for Brand Marketing, participate and share fresh launch support ideas in meetings
  • Create and present competitive market research findings across all channels, monitor and share general consumer and beauty trends to identify future product opportunities and needs
  • Storing, organizing, and shipping submissions, batch samples, and final product maintaining retains physically and digitally
  • Organize and drive in-person product testing, including model outreach
  • Maintain brand identity and principles

QUALIFICATIONS

  • 4-6 years of experience in hair care and styling product development
  • Extremely detail-oriented
  • Strong communication and time management
  • Strategic thinker who blends strong analytics and creativity
  • Strong work ethic and a can-do attitude
  • Problem-solving and entrepreneurial in nature
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities simultaneously
  • Strong team player
  • Internet savvy. Proficient in Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Thrive in a fast-paced entrepreneurial environment
  • Domestic & international travel required
  • Bachelor’s Degree

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • Lifting: Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects, including the human body.
  • Reaching: Extending hands and arms in any direction.
