SSAI seeks an intern to help provide support to the procurement team. This is a great opportunity to transition into an entry-level procurement role. The position is located at SSAI Headquarters in Lanham, Maryland. The responsibilities include:
Supporting the Buying Process:
- Assist in the preparation and issuance of purchase orders based on requisitions from various departments.
- Help in sourcing and selecting suppliers by gathering quotes, comparing prices, and analyzing supplier capabilities.
Market Research:
- Conduct market research to identify new suppliers, products, and trends that could benefit the company.
- Analyze market conditions to help forecast product demand and assess the availability of materials.
Supplier Communication:
- Communicate with suppliers to follow up on orders, resolve discrepancies, and ensure timely delivery of goods.
- Help manage relationships with suppliers, including tracking their performance and ensuring they meet the company’s standards.
Documentation and Record-Keeping:
- Maintain accurate records of all transactions, purchase orders, and supplier communications.
- Help ensure that all purchasing documentation complies with company policies and procedures.
Cost Analysis:
- Assist in analyzing the cost of goods purchased, looking for ways to reduce costs while maintaining quality.
- Help in preparing reports on spending, supplier performance, and cost savings.
Learning and Development:
- Participate in training sessions and workshops to learn about procurement processes, supplier management, and industry best practices.
- Shadow experienced buyers to gain insights into negotiation techniques, supplier selection, and strategic sourcing.
- Associate's or Bachelor's degree in business, accounting, finance or related field
Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities to interpret financial data and identify trends or discrepancies.
Meticulous attention to detail to ensure accuracy in financial records and reports.
Effective verbal and written communication skills to interact professionally with team members and external stakeholders.
Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment, supporting colleagues and contributing to shared goals.
Excellent time management skills to prioritize tasks effectively and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
Basic proficiency in Excel, including the ability to create and manipulate spreadsheets, use formulas, and perform data analysis.
Commitment to maintaining confidentiality and adhering to ethical standards in handling financial information.
