Job Description

- The Navigator performs planning, research, consultative, technical and program development work.

- Will assist in implementing plans, goals, strategies, deliverables, and timelines to meet objectives.

- Will report to and provide consultative services to Workforce Solutions Offices, local Vocational Rehabilitation Offices, school districts, Education Service Centers, community partners, employers in other governmental agencies, community organizations and the public.

- Works under general supervision with latitude for the use of independent judgment - Increase community awareness of the resources/activities available to students with disabilities in the following five pre-employment transition services - job (career) exploration counseling; - work-based learning experiences (may include in- or after-school opportunities, or experience outside the traditional school setting); - counseling on opportunities for transition or post-secondary educational programs at institutions of higher education; - workplace readiness training to develop social skills and independent living; and - instruction in self-advocacy, which may include peer mentoring

- Develop relationships with school districts and Education Service Centers to promote awareness of pre-employment transition services and Workforce Solutions resources to schools, parents, and students

- Promote the use of tools available through Labor Market and Career Information Department for career exploration, post-secondary education, and work readiness.

- In consultation with Workforce Solutions Offices, local Vocational Rehabilitation offices and education agencies, parents and students with disabilities, employers, and community partners, develop strategies to 1) improve the transition to post-secondary activities of students in traditionally underserved populations, 2) expand access to the five required pre-employment transition services listed above, and 3) coordinate implementation of these strategies

- Develop/disseminate information to Workforce Solutions Offices, local Vocational Rehabilitation offices, local education agencies, employers, community partners, parents and students.

- Convene/attend workgroups, committees, and cross-agency teams to foster system and community

- Develop and coordinate events, campaigns to increase student and family awareness of pre-employment transition services

- In consultation with local Vocational Rehabilitation offices, and other Board and Board contractor staff, organize events to increase employers' understanding of the abilities of students with disabilities.

- Provide training to increase employers' awareness of disability etiquette and accommodations for students with disabilities. With partner agencies, develop work-based learning opportunities for students with disabilities (internships, summer employment, other work during the school year)

- Ensure that state and local Vocational Rehabilitation staff receive the information needed to fulfill federal reporting requirements for pre-employment transition services to students with disabilities. (Reporting for deliverables is detailed in Section 3.5.)

- Comply with federal and state requirements for the confidentiality of student data, as applicable to Section 3.5

- Ensure that resources developed for the deliverables in Section 3.5 are available in accessible formats for students who use screen reader software, screen magnification software, large print, and Braille

- Ensure that reasonable accommodations are provided as requested for activities associated with Section 3.5

- Participate in meetings called by for training and Student HireAbility Navigator Program development and improvement

- Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  - Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university. One additional year of full-time qualifying experience may be substituted for each year (30 semester hours) of the required education

- Four years of full-time work experience in the fields of education, vocational rehabilitation, workforce development programs, human services programs, or non-profit organizations serving students or persons with disabilities is preferred

- A Master's Degree from an accredited college or university may be substituted for years of the required qualifying experience

- Must be a team player and model HEART Principles

- Have knowledge of community resources to address potential barriers of job seekers. Familiarity with human service, vocational rehabilitation, and disability issues and service competencies

- Strong written/oral communication and presentation skills

- Excellent computer skills, including Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook

- Must possess and maintain a good driving record and meet company driving requirements



Additional Information

A valid driver’s license in good standing and proof of liability insurance are also required.

This position pays $22.50 per hour.
