THIS POSITION IS POSTED FOR OPENINGS IN BOTH THE OAKLAND AMD RICHMOND REGIONSPOSITION SUMMARY

The Education Specialists serve as case manager and provider of Specialized Academic Instruction (SAI) in both general education and specialized learning environments, working primarily with students with Individualized Education Program (IEP) in inclusive and in-person classroom settings. Education Specialists work closely with the Director of Special Education, school leadership, general education teachers, and multidisciplinary teams to plan & implement individualized & rigorous educational programming for students in IEPs. Education Specialists are responsible for Case Management & Compliance, Goal Setting & Progress Monitoring, Stakeholder Engagement & Empowerment, as well as Lesson Plan Collaboration & delivery of effective teaching practices for all students.

Education Specialists will create a welcoming, safe, engaging and supportive learning environment that implements best practices necessary for students to be successful in school and beyond, and they will relish the opportunity to imbue our students with a love for learning. Alignment with the AMPS mission and vision is the cornerstone to the role.

Plan, prepare and deliver lesson plans and instructional content that facilitate active learning experiences for students with Individualized Education Programs (IEP)

Establish and communicate clear objectives for all learning activities as determined by the student’s (IEP).

Provide a variety of learning materials and resources for use in educational activities provided individually and/or small groups.

Identify and select different instructional resources and methods to meet students' varying needs

Instruct and monitor students in the use of learning resources, tools, and equipment.

Facilitate, monitor,document and evaluate the progress of individual students and use information to adjust instructional strategies.

Use relevant technology to support and differentiate instruction

Manage student behavior in the classroom by establishing, clear and consistent expectations, consequences, and procedures for restoring relationships in accordance with the schools’ rules and disciplinary systems

Administer student assessments essential to assess student learning and in the development of the IEP.

Assign and grade class work, homework, tests, and projects when appropriate

Maintain accurate and complete records of students' progress and development

Communicate regularly to students, colleagues and parents regarding student progress and student needs

Maintain and update all necessary records accurately and completely as required by AMPS and CA education code or regulations

Participate in AMPS, grade level, department, school, and parent meetings.

Maintain professional competence, through in-service and special education education related activities

Stay up-to-date with developments in subject area, teaching resources and methods and make relevant changes to instructional plans and activities

Establish and maintain an inclusive, culturally relevant and sensitive classroom environment


Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

Serves as case manager and provider of Specialized Academic Instruction (SAI) working primarily with students with Individualized Education Plans in inclusive settings and highly specialized programs

Work closely with the Director of Special Education, school leadership, general education teachers, and multidisciplinary teams to plan and implement individualized & rigorous educational programming for students in Special Education

Responsible for case management and compliance, goal setting, progress monitoring, reporting and evaluation as well as stakeholder engagement & empowerment

Plan and deliver lessons utilizing effective researched-based instructional practices that are in alignment with the student’s Individualized Education Program.


OTHER DUTIES:

Demonstrate competence and skill in working with students from diverse cultural, economic and ability backgrounds

Encourage parent and community involvement, obtain information for parents when requested, promptly return phone calls and answer emails

Participate in appropriate professional activities and trainings

Other duties as assigned or required to contribute to a safe, positive, and culturally sensitive learning environment

Maintain confidentiality of student records as outlined by FERPA

On an annual basis, or as required by state and Federal regulations, complete all mandatory trainings

Adhere to any health and safety guidelines as outlined by AMPS, the CDC, CDE, and/or public health agencies’ recommendations

Perform other duties as assigned

Requirements:

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Minimum Requirements:

Completion of a Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited institution

Legal authorization to work in the United States

Possession of a valid credential as an Education Specialist authorizing service in appropriate content area and with appropriate authorizations as required by the California Education Code, including English Learner Certificate in the state of CA (CLAD or BCLAD), or be in the process of securing a credential.

Provision of TB (tuberculin) clearance, as mandated by the California Education Code.


EXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATIONS/SKILLS

Experience as an educator in a traditionally underserved community for one or more years with demonstrated strong achievement results and documented growth on formative assessments preferred.

Knowledge of child cognitive development and different learning styles

Knowledge and experience on current teaching approaches and structures for differentiated instruction.

Ability to establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with student, staff and parents.

Two years of successful, full time teaching experience in Special Education

Possess strong content area knowledge and classroom management skills

Proficient knowledge of Google Suite applications (Google Classroom, Hangout, Docs, Sheets, Slides, etc.)

Ability to learn and utilize instructional technology to support students in gaining access to rigorous curriculum

Effective interpersonal, communication, conflict resolution, time management and record keeping skills

Be committed to working with educationally underserved students

Ability to access and utilize technology.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee occasionally works in outside weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Work environment includes working directly with children. The employee must ensure that children are supervised at all times and that children are involved in safe and appropriate activities. The employees must be prepared to handle accidents and emergencies at any time..

Working environment is subject to constant interruptions and distractions. The employee will be required to travel between/among school sites to provide services.
