Ames Water Line Survey: Utility Locating Service NASA Ames Research Center
PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The utility surveyor will work with Bay Systems/AECOM to locate and mark water mains. Line depths are required, the surveyor will gather this data as the lines are being located.
Scope of Services
- Locate and document location of underground domestic water piping segments. In addition to water line segements, locate nearby utilities within 5 ft of each side of water line or crossing the water line.
- Use acceptable scanning equipment or tools per current industry practice, such as ground penetrating radar.
- Review existing NASA-provided GIS drawings, verify and clearly provide red-lined mark-ups on the drawings to show the scanned utilities’ location and dimensions within a few inches of tolerance in plan. Mark-up should show the following:
- Location, pipe size (if available), and approximate depth of water piping to be replace.
- Location, size (if available), approximate depth, and utility type of utilities, including electrical duct banks, within 10-ft of water piping to be replaced
- Provide physical marking at the project site to show location and routing of scanned utilities. Marking should indicate utility type based on available GIS database utilities information.
- Provide topographic survey within 5 feet of each side of the located waterline (10-foot-wide corridor). Survey to include:
- locating surface markings from utility survey
- locating of natural ground features, roadway features, existing structures, gates, fences, walls, driveways,
- locating of readily apparent surface evidence of buried utilities, storm drain and sanitary sewer manhole and catch basin pipe sizes and invert elevations, drainage structures, valve boxes, clean outs, electrical and gas boxes, and valves
- locating of signs, poles, streetlights, and trees over 4” diameter (indicating species, diameter, and drip radius)
- elevations at 1 foot contours, and other pertinent improvements within 10 feet of the located waterline
- Provide traffic control as required to scan utilities located beneath roadways and to complete topographic survey.
- Survey deliverables will include:
- Digital terrain model composed from topographic mapping with planimetrics at a scale of 1” = 20' with 1-foot contour interval in AutoCAD Civil 3D 2022 format.
- An electronic map on border provided by AECOM at a mapping scale of 1” = 20'. PDF shall be stamped/signed by Professional Land Surveyor Licensed in the State of California.
Procedures:
- In its proposal describe its process for identifying, marking and the water lines. Confirm and ensure no destructive investigating or locating procedures, such as potholing or similar procedures, will be utilized.
- Estimate and budget sufficient time for coordinating personnel to acquire NASA Ames temporary badging to allow access to NASA Ames. Subcontractor shall provide AECOM Project Manage the full and complete names of Subcontractor personnel assigned to perform designated services, at least forty- eight (72) hours in advance of arrival at NASA Ames to facilitate authorization of temporary identification badges. Badging is done at the NASA Ames Badging office at the Main Gate at NASA Ames.
- Coordinate with the AECOM Project Manager and personnel advanced access to dealing with any secure or locked facilities and fences.
- All subcontractor staff proposed on site shall be United States Citizen
- Provide adequate signage for necessary road closures and protection of pedestrians, if necessary to perform the required Scope of Services.
DELIVERABLES
Water line locations will include, but may not be limited to, locating, and identifying the following:
- Digital terrain model composed from topographic mapping with planimetrics at a scale of 1” = 20' with 1-foot contour interval in AutoCAD Civil 3D 2022 format.
- An electronic map on border provided by AECOM/Bay Systems at a mapping scale of 1” = 20'. PDF shall be stamped/signed by Professional Land Surveyor Licensed in the State of California.
Safety and Attire
- Long pants and short/long sleeved shirts
- Hard hats (ANSI Z89)
- Safety glasses (ANSI Z87.1)
- Safety-toe work boots (ANSI F2413-05)
- Hearing protection (when required)
- High-visibility reflective material vest for work around heavy or mobile equipment or in high traffic areas; ANSI Class II or III; 6. Gloves appropriate for the task.
PROJECT WORK PLAN AND SAFETY PLAN:
- Subcontractor shall submit both a Project specific Work Plan and a Safety Plan for review and approval by AECOM after final execution of an authorization for specific services but before on-site work begins.
- Contractor will provide Project Manager with all project necessary licenses, certifications, and training records prior to mobilization to a project site.
- Contractor will conduct task level risk assessments daily during all field work (THA, JSA, or similar).
- Contractor will immediately report all incidents (including Near Misses) to the AECOM Site Safety Officer, Site Supervisor or Project Manager.
