Responsibilities:

Coffee Preparation and Service:

  • Prepare and serve high-quality coffee, espresso, and tea beverages.
  • Ensure consistency and excellence in all drinks served.
  • Maintain knowledge of all menu items, recipes, and brewing methods.
  • Experiment with and introduce new coffee beverages and seasonal specialties.

 Customer Service:

  • Provide outstanding customer service, addressing customer inquiries and resolving issues promptly.
  • Create a welcoming and friendly environment for all customers.
  • Educate customers about our coffee offerings and brewing techniques.

Team Leadership and Training:

  • Lead and motivate the barista team to deliver exceptional service and quality.
  • Train new baristas on coffee preparation, customer service, and operational procedures.
  • Provide ongoing training and development opportunities for existing staff.
  • Schedule shifts and manage staffing levels to ensure efficient operations.

Operations and Inventory Management:

  • Oversee daily operations of the coffee bar, ensuring cleanliness and organization.
  • Manage inventory levels, order supplies, and ensure stock is adequately maintained.
  • Monitor equipment maintenance and schedule repairs as needed.
  • Implement and enforce health and safety standards.

Financial Responsibilities:

  • Assist with cash handling, including opening and closing procedures.
  • Monitor sales and contribute to achieving revenue targets.
  • Track and reduce waste to optimize cost-efficiency.

Communication and Morale:

  • Act as a liaison between staff and management, fostering a positive and professional environment.
  • Utilize Basecamp for transparent communication with staff and upper management.
  • Encourage colleagues to use Basecamp for updates and information sharing.
  • Attend manager meetings and participate in weekly check-ins with the cafe manager.

Product Knowledge and Education:

  • Have in-depth knowledge of coffees, blends, food, pastry offerings, and tea selection.
  • Ensure staff is educated on all products and procedures.
  • Engage with leadership to clarify any doubts and maintain consistent instructions.

Ordering and Inventory:

  • Inventory management for weekly coffee orders using sales data and forecast needs based on events, festivals, and traffic.
  • Inventory of paper products, cups, and cleaning supplies using established spreadsheets and setting pars.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience as a barista, with at least 1 year in a leadership role.
  • Must be available for day shifts (40 hours a week required).
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends and holidays.
  • Extensive knowledge of coffee, espresso, and brewing techniques.
  • Strong customer service skills and a passion for coffee culture.
  • Organizational Skills: Strong organizational and problem-solving skills with a proven track record.
  • Communication Proficiency: Exceptional verbal and written communication skills.
  • Independence and Accountability: Ability to operate independently with a high level of reliability and accountability.
  • Strategic Implementation: Autonomy to execute operational improvements and strategic initiatives.
  • Adaptability in High-Energy Settings: Demonstrated capability to thrive in a fast-paced environment, effectively managing multiple tasks with resilience and composure.
  • Physical Endurance and Strength: Ability to stand for extended periods and comfortably lift up to 40 pounds, supporting the dynamic physical demands of the role.
  • Interpersonal Skills: Possesses a warm, friendly, and outgoing personality, enabling excellent customer interactions and fostering a welcoming atmosphere.
  • Reliable Transportation: Must possess reliable transportation to ensure punctuality and the ability to meet operational needs, including off-site meetings and potential supply runs.
  • Proficient in Homebase, Basecamp, and Google Sheets for streamlined project management, team coordination, and data management.
  • ServSafe Certification is required; however, the company will cover the cost of certification for candidates who are not already certified.
  • Ability to lead and motivate a team.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
