LIFE SKILLS COORDINATOR


A Day in the Life:


The Life Skills Coordinator partners with students, their families and referring professionals to facilitate our students’ path toward independence, as well as to serve as the main facilitator and liaison to all CIP functions within the center. The Life Skills Coordinator is an onsite full-time exempt position located in Melbourne, FL that reports to the Program Director.


This position operates in a highly scheduled environment but may require longer hours and occasional weekend work and minimal travel as job duties demand. The Life Skills Coordinator position involves a low physical demand.


All the Responsibilities We’ll Trust You With:


  • Oversees all students in their residential settings providing a safe environment for learning skills necessary for independence.

  • Possesses detailed knowledge of emergency and safety procedures and conducts regular student and staff trainings on related topics, including fire drills.

  • Teaches students all aspects involved in apartment cleanliness and maintenance.

  • Conducts grocery shopping with student as well as individual or group cooking instruction and kitchen clean up.

  • Conducts appropriate Executive Functioning appointments with students based on their needs and coordinates with staff accordingly.

  • Coordinate transportation for students on travel days.

  • Collaborates with Social Skills in planning weekend activities.

  • Conducts roommate meetings in order to facilitate appropriate communication in the student’s residences.

  • Attends student forum weekly, reviews and finalizes weekend activities with the social skills coordinator for the following weekend.

  • Uses appropriate judgment to handle student issues and when necessary uses de-escalation techniques and other strategies.

  • Arranges and/or provides Life Skills staffing including holidays and other days when departmental staff is not present at the center.

  • Communicates with staff across all departments regarding student’s Life Skills goals and objectives in order to facilitate student programming.

  • Reviews and collaborates on input from other direct support functions and relays this information to Life Skills staff in order to carry out appropriate evening support plans.

  • Assists with minor residential maintenance issues.

Qualities You Possess:


  • The Life Skills Coordinator will possess exceptional communication skills, precise attention to detail, superior organization and prioritization skills and self-motivation in managing tasks to completion. They will have genuine empathy and awareness of the needs and sensitivities of prospective families, students, and staff.


Your Areas of Knowledge and Expertise:


  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited institution in Psychology, Social Work, Education, or a related field is required.

  • Proficient with office utility computer software programs and a quick learner in new technologies is required.

  • Education, training, or career experience in approaches, methods, and support for persons with autism spectrum disorder and/or learning differences, specifically in the area of life skills or mentoring.

  • Successfully managed projects and teams within a collaborative workplace environment.

  • Active driver’s license required.
