POSITION OVERVIEW: As a Level III Maintenance Service Engineer/Operator at Proton Cancer Treatment Centers, you will assume a role in ensuring the optimal operation and maintenance of our proton therapy equipment. Leveraging your extensive experience and expertise, you will drive continuous improvement initiatives, lead strategic projects, and serve as a subject matter expert in one or more areas of proton therapy technology.


JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Strategic Maintenance Planning: Develop and implement strategic maintenance plans to optimize equipment uptime, minimize downtime, and extend the lifespan of critical components. Utilize predictive maintenance techniques and data analytics to identify potential issues before they occur.

2. Advanced Technical Support: Provide advanced technical support to the maintenance team, serving as the go-to resource for troubleshooting complex issues and implementing innovative solutions. Collaborate with external vendors and industry experts to facilitate maintenance, servicing, and repairs, and to stay at the forefront of technological advancements in proton therapy.

3. Process Optimization: Lead process improvement initiatives within the maintenance department, streamlining workflows, enhancing efficiency, and reducing costs. Implement best practices and standard operating procedures to ensure consistency and reliability in maintenance operations.

4. Team Leadership: Provide leadership for servicing activities as needed. Manage the M&S team during servicing activities, upgrades, and urgent repairs as requested.

5. Cross-Functional Collaboration: Foster strong relationships with other departments, including clinical staff, research and development teams, and procurement, to align maintenance activities with organizational goals and priorities. Act as a liaison between technical and non-technical stakeholders to facilitate effective communication and collaboration.

6. Continuous Learning and Development: Stay abreast of the latest developments in proton therapy technology, maintenance techniques, and regulatory requirements. Lead training and development programs for the maintenance team to enhance their skills and knowledge.

7. Risk Management: Identify and mitigate risks associated with equipment maintenance and operation, ensuring compliance with safety regulations and industry standards. Develop contingency plans and emergency response protocols to minimize the impact of equipment failures on patient care.

8. Vendor Management: Manage relationships with equipment vendors and service providers and ensure that vendor services meet quality, cost, and timeline requirements.

9. Mentorship: Provide mentorship to junior members of the maintenance team, empowering them to take on increased responsibilities and develop their skills. Foster a culture of collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement within the maintenance department.


JOB SPECIFICATIONS:

Education/Experience/Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Physics with 5+ years of related experience in Engineering or Physics discipline, or associate degree with equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Extensive experience in maintaining and servicing complex medical devices, with a focus on proton therapy equipment.
  • Experience with CT Imaging and/or other medical imaging technologies preferred.
  • In-depth knowledge of advanced electrical and mechanical systems, including power distribution, electro-mechanical control systems, safety PLC’s, high power RF systems, vacuum systems, particle accelerators, and high-voltage circuits.
  • Proficiency in advanced troubleshooting techniques and diagnostic tools, with a track record of resolving complex technical issues.
  • Strong project management skills, with experience leading cross-functional teams and managing complex projects from initiation to completion.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively communicate technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Thorough understanding of regulatory requirements and quality standards relevant to medical device maintenance, including FDA and ISO regulations.
  • Demonstrated leadership abilities, with a track record of driving organizational change and achieving results through influence and collaboration.
  • Continuous learner mindset, with a commitment to staying current with emerging technologies and best practices in proton therapy maintenance.
  • Advanced proficiency in Windows Services, Microsoft file systems, networking protocols, and DICOM configuration preferred.

Work Environment / Travel

  • Strict adherence to safety rules and regulations at all times including following SOPs, wearing safety glasses, ear plugs, steel-toed shoes and full body safety harnesses.
  • The position requires frequent work in an area with exposure to a high magnetic field. The level of magnetic field likely poses a safety risk for workers with pacemakers, defribrilators, and similar inplanted devices.
  • Working in building construction and clinical environments
  • Occasionally working in high radiation fields
  • Working in a high tempo stressful environment
  • Physical activities including standing, walking, sitting and lifting.
  • Working on scaffolding may be required
  • Candidate must be able to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • May be required to work extended hours during the day or night
  • Shift work will be required depending on installation or patient schedules
  • Required to Travel 5 – 10% annually
