Summary of Position

The Café Barista at The Maybourne Beverly Hills is responsible for serving high-quality coffee/tea beverages by delivering a 5-Star luxury experience that follow our hotels standards to ensure guest satisfaction.

Roles and Responsibilities

Job duties include, although are not limited to:

  1. Maintain complete knowledge of and comply with all departmental policies, service procedures and standards.
  2. Ensure that standards are maintained at a superior level on a daily basis.
  3. Maintain complete knowledge of ingredients and potential allergens for all menu items. Clearly communicate any allergies to Chef and Manager/Supervisor upon receiving guest order to ensure guest safety and minimize potential risk.
  4. Maintain complete knowledge of correct maintenance and use of equipment. Use equipment only as intended.
  5. Maintain complete knowledge of table/seat/station numbers, room capacity, hours of operation, proper table set-up and dress code of the restaurant.
  6. Complete opening side duties as assigned:
  • Check quality and amount of all restaurant stock and supplies using checklist.
  • Fold napkins.
  • Requisition all necessary supplies and transport from storeroom to restaurant.
  • Set tables according to service standards
  • Set up all condiments and beverages according to service standards.
  • Ensure a sufficient supply of all silverware, glassware and chinaware for service. Supplies must be perfectly polished, without any water spots and blemishes.
  • Check cleanliness and condition of assigned station and service areas; rectify any deficiencies.
  • Set upside station with supplies and equipment.
  1. Take guests’ food and beverage orders, utilizing suggestive selling techniques.
  2. Record order of guest following departmental service procedures.
  3. Clearly communicate special menu requests and/or allergies to Chef and Manager/Supervisor and confirm details prior to placing order on POS.
  4. Input order into POS and ensure transmission of food orders is verified by kitchen. Follow specific order placing technique while entering order.
  5. Legibly document orders when system is down and distribute food orders to kitchen.
  6. Retrieve all alcoholic beverage items from bar and serve to guest in accordance with the departmental standards.
  7. Make all varieties of coffee in accordance with the departmental standards.
  8. Serve all non-alcoholic beverage items to the guest in accordance with departmental standards.
  9. Acknowledge guest and anticipate guests' needs, respond promptly and with a sense of urgency.
  10. Maintain positive guest relations at all times.
  11. Be familiar with all hotel services/features and local attractions/activities to respond to guest inquiries accurately.
  12. Monitor and maintain cleanliness, sanitation and organization of assigned station and service areas.
  13. Remove soiled wares from tables as assigned and transport to dishwashing area.
  14. Polish glassware and silverware as needed.
  15. Attend daily meetings with service team and management prior to start of shift.
  16. Collect and report tips at the end of the assigned shift.
  17. Complete closing side duties:
  • Safely store all reusable goods.
  • Breakdown all goods as specified in departmental standards.
  • Clean all equipment as assigned in the side duties.
  • Restock items for next service.
  • Remove all dirty linen.
  • Reset tables for next meal period.
  1. Complete all closing reports as assigned and leave duty after reporting to supervisor.
  2. Exhibit a friendly, helpful and courteous manner when dealing with guests and fellow colleagues.
  3. Perform and execute all other duties as assigned by hotel management.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. High School Diploma or equivalent education required
  2. Minimum of one year experience in Food and Beverage
  3. Minimum of one year experience in customer service
  4. Exceptional guest recovery skills
  5. Must be able to perform job functions with attention to detail, speed and accuracy; prioritize, organize and follow-up; be a clear thinker, remaining calm and resolving problems using good judgment; follow directions thoroughly; understand a guest’s service needs; work cohesively with co-workers as part of a team; work with minimal supervision; maintain confidentiality of guest information and pertinent hotel data.
  6. Ability to understand guests' service needs
  7. Ability to be well organized, maintain concentration and think clearly when providing service to guests within any given period of time
  8. Ability to focus attention on details
  9. Ability to suggestively sell restaurant menu items, beverages, and wines; ability to access and input information into P.O.S. system
  10. Proven ability to maintain good coordination and timing while serving orders quickly; ability to exert physical effort in transporting food and beverage guests
  11. Language: Required to speak, read and write English, with fluency in other languages also preferred
  12. Minimum 21 years of age to serve alcohol.
  13. Must possess RBS ABC Certification
  14. Must possess Food Handler’s certification

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Consistently communicates with guest and staff members, therefore must be able to communicate, converse with and exchange information
  • Must be able to detect, determine, perceive, identify, recognize, and assess from long distances
  • Moderate noise (i.e. business office with computers, phone, and printers, light traffic).
  • Ability stand at a computer terminal for an extended period of time.
  • Must be able to bend, stoop, squat and stretch to fulfill tasks
  • Must be physically able to lift up to 50 lbs. and carry heavy trays and equipment, as well as delicate china and barware
  • Must be physically able to walk without assistance on various surfaces for an extended period.
  • Must be physically able to stand for extended period
  • The position requires manual dexterity, grasping, writing, repetitive motion, bending and climbing
  • Position requires walking and standing most of the working day; must be able to stand and exert well-paced mobility for up to 8 hours in length
  • Must be able to bend, stoop, squat and stretch to fulfill tasks
  • Ability to endure abundant physical movements throughout the work areas.
