Overview

Job Title: Sales Engineer
Location: New England (Focus on Connecticut and Massachusetts)
Work Environment: Home Office with Daily Travel; Up to 25% Overnight Stays
Compensation: Base Salary + Commission

Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly motivated Sales Engineer with proven presentation skills and effective sales techniques. In this role, you will focus on developing new business within an assigned territory, as well as retaining and expanding business with existing customers. You will build strong client relationships, drive sales results, and use your expertise to help customers achieve their business goals with proven solutions. Autonomy, a strong drive, and a desire to win are essential qualities for this position as you take ownership of the entire sales cycle.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Business Development: Identify, cultivate, and secure new business opportunities with both current and prospective clients.
  • Sales Targets: Achieve or exceed annual sales objectives within designated territories and client accounts.
  • Client Engagement: Conduct frequent client visits to assess needs, propose solutions, and gather detailed information for estimates and proposals.
  • Project Involvement: Actively participate in turnkey projects, demonstrations, and other customer initiatives to ensure timely completion within budgetary constraints.
  • Industry Expertise: Maintain a deep understanding of the machine tool industry and the product lines offered by our company.
  • CRM Management: Utilize CRM software to manage all aspects of prospecting and customer engagement effectively.
  • Marketing Support: Assist with marketing initiatives, including the design and preparation of catalogs, flyers, and other promotional materials for product launches, updates, and promotions.
  • Event Representation: Provide assistance and representation at trade shows and other off-site events as necessary and feasible.
  • Cross-Selling & Up-Selling: Implement strategies by deeply understanding clients' value propositions, primary business goals, and the industries they operate in.
  • Additional Duties: Perform other duties as assigned.

Skills & Abilities:

  • Communication: Excellent written and oral communication skills, with proficiency in phone and electronic communications.
  • Negotiation: Ability to negotiate pricing and contract terms effectively.
  • Independent & Team Work: Capable of working independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
  • Multitasking: Ability to plan, coordinate, and manage multiple projects while meeting strict deadlines.
  • Sales Experience: Previous experience in outside sales, particularly with manufactured equipment, is preferred.
  • Presentation Skills: Strong professional communication and presentation abilities.
  • Problem-Solving: Innovative approach to problem-solving with a results-oriented mindset.

Knowledge & Experience:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in business, industrial distribution, manufacturing, or equivalent experience.
  • Sales Experience: Minimum of 5 years of experience in selling and applying high-performance cutting tools.
  • Software Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and OneNote. Knowledge of programming software (e.g., MasterCam, AutoCAD, SolidWorks) is preferred.
  • Licensing: Must have a valid driver’s license, reliable automobile transportation, and current auto insurance.

Physical Requirements:

  • Computer Work: Ability to work on computers for extended periods.
  • Travel: Availability for travel, including occasional overnight stays, for show support.
