Reports To: Chef Manager FLSA: Non-Exempt

Status: 25+ Hours


GENERAL SUMMARY

The primary responsibility of the Prep Cook is to work closely with the Cooks and Chef Manager and be responsible for food preparation and delivery as well as kitchen sanitation. Tasks in this role include ensuring food is prepped for service on time and in line with the menu of the day. Maintaining supplies in coordination with Cook on duty and keeping equipment clean and safe. Providing excellent customer service to both residents and staff. The overall objective is to ensure that the entire dining experience is the highlight of the resident's day.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

· Prep/prepare and serve nutritious meals and ensure high quality presentation and flavorful meals for our residents.

· Assist with preparing, cooking, and garnishing of all meals served during working shift.

· Responsible for adherence to menu and tasks assigned.

· Provide a high level of customer service and promote a restaurant style dining atmosphere.

· Maintain kitchen and food storage and preparation areas in a clean, safe, and sanitary condition at all times.

· Assist with the opening and/or closing of the kitchen as needed.

· Adhere to cleaning schedules as assigned.

· Assist with preparation and execution of special events, banquets, and theme meals.

· May perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements:


  • Strong Verbal and written communication skills.· Basic technical skills including the ability to use a tablet or smartphone.· Able to perform basic arithmetic skills such as measurement, addition, subtraction, multiplication and division in order to do basic math.
  • Able to build positive relationships with employees, coworkers and residents.
  • Focused and dedicated to providing excellent customer service.
  • Ability to multitask.

· Must be able to operate all kitchen equipment safely and effectively. Equipment may include a meat slicer, food processor, mixers, ovens, grills, steamers, dishwasher, warmer cabinets.


PREPARATION, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

  • High School Diploma or general education degree (GED)
  • Experience in food safety and management.· Two years of culinary experience as a line cook or prep cook. · Serve Safe Certification, or willingness to acquire this through Bethany Communities.
  • Able to read and follow recipes and printed production guides, cleaning schedules, and logs in English.

WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL DEMANDS· Ability to read, write and communicate in English is required.

  • Physically able to move at least 50 lbs. without assistance.
  • Physically able to bend, reach, and work in small areas.
  • Physically able to push and pull equipment and furnishings.
  • Physically able to stand and to work on hands and knees for long periods of time.
