Job Description

Summary/objective

The Banquet Manager is responsible for assisting in supervising and coordinating banquet events and activities of the service staff to ensure that member and guest satisfaction and presentation standards are consistently attained. This position will work hand in hand with the Events and Catering Director with a primary focus on catering and special events and assisting with a la carte dining. The Country Club of North Carolina is open 7 days a week. The main clubhouse is closed Monday and Tuesday. This position will work a combination of days, nights, and weekends, including some holidays as needed based on banquet events and club needs.

  • Interacts and builds strong relationships with The Country club of North Carolina's membership.
  • Communicates with members and hosts regarding their event experience and relay relative information to the service staff, Events and Catering Director, Executive Chef, Food and Beverage Manager, General Manager, etc. as needed.
  • Coordinates with members, hosts, catering sales, outside vendors, kitchen, and maintenance staff for all banquet events.
  • Prepares and reviews table diagrams, guest tables, and set-up needs for special events.
  • Supervises the front of house staff during set-up and execution of events.
  • Conducts daily line-up with banquet staff.
  • Ensuring that banquet room and facilities remain clean and neat.
  • Ensures banquet room is set up according to event order.
  • Responsible for direction of food and beverage banquet team.
  • Remains up-to-date and knowledgeable regarding Club menus and events.
  • Assists Events and Catering Director and Food and Beverage Manager to develop detailed plans for all events.
  • Assists in the development of catering and banquet menus, wine lists, and bar menus.
  • Train bussers while serving as a mentor for team leaders.
  • Holds self and staff accountable for completion and execution of daily tasks and operations.
  • Knowledgeable of and always complying with the Club's standards and policies to encourage safe and efficient operations.
  • Attends weekly BEO meeting with the Food and Beverage Team to discuss events and set-ups.
  • Develops and maintains vendor profiles to include audio visual, floral, equipment rentals, and photographers.
  • Ensures procedures for the service of alcoholic beverages are consistently followed.
  • Confirms all side work and closing procedures have been completed.
  • Creates a functional working environment that is fun, safe, and productive.
  • Assists with monthly inventory.
  • Responsible for setup of all holiday and member event décor, sometimes working with house florist.
  • Opens and closes the Club as directed.

Competencies

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office products (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Ability to learn and use Club-specific software programs (Jonas) in the execution of job functions.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, perform multiple tasks, and prioritize needs in a fast-paced environment.
  • Superior organization, leadership, and communication skills required.
  • Ability to interact with members and staff on all levels in a professional, positive, and friendly manner.

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • Responsible for supervision of full-time and part-time banquet staff.

Work environment

  • Majority of the work will be in the banquet room, restaurant, and front of the house.
  • The administrative functions of this position will be completed in an office setting.

Physical demands

  • Ability to be on your feet for longer periods, lift, move, and/or carry up to 15 pounds.
  • Ability to carry out various functions that may require pushing, pulling, kneeling, and reaching.

Required education and experience

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • 1-3 years of banquet experience in a hospitality industry or related field.

Preferred education and experience

  • Degree in hospitality or similar.
  • Familiar with Jonas Management a plus, not required.
