A Staff Accountant is responsible for assisting the accounting operations of the company’s accounting department. Their duties include reconciling accounts, finalizing financial reports, and discussing financial strategies with management.
Reports to: BHI Controller/Head of Finance and Accounting
Financial Reporting:
- Prepare financial reports.
- Perform account reconciliations.
- Maintain the general ledger.
- Assist with audit preparations.
Account Analysis:
- Resolve account discrepancies.
- Analyze the company’s financial status.
- Verify financial transactions.
Special Skills:
- Numerical Proficiency: Staff accountants work with numbers extensively. You should be comfortable using numbers to solve problems, analyze financial data, and make informed decisions.
- Understanding Tax Laws and Regulations: Familiarize yourself with tax laws and regulations relevant to accounting. This knowledge is crucial for accurate financial reporting and compliance.
- Ethics: As an accountant, maintaining ethical standards is essential. You’ll handle sensitive financial information, so integrity and honesty are paramount.
- Time Management: Staff accountants often juggle multiple tasks, deadlines, and responsibilities. Effective time management ensures you meet deadlines and maintain accuracy.
- Accounting Theory and GAAP: A solid understanding of accounting theory and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) is fundamental. This includes financial statement preparation, analysis, and adherence to accounting standards.
Experience:
3-5 years as Staff Accountant, or in a financial analysist capacity.
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance
Experience in Hospitality a plus
