Opportunity Summary:

 

Avanza is seeking a skilled Data Scientist with a strong focus on advanced data analytics and financial modeling to join our growing team. This role is crucial to our efforts in transforming financial data into actionable insights that support federal clients in optimizing resource allocation and performance. The ideal candidate will have a robust background in data science, statistical analysis, and financial modeling, with the ability to apply these skills in a federal financial management context. Please note that applicants must be US Citizens or Permanent Residents and successfully pass a background investigation, as required by the contract.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and refine predictive models and algorithms to forecast financial performance, optimize budget allocations, and improve decision-making processes.
  • Leverage advanced statistical techniques, such as logistic regression, multivariate analysis, and sampling methods, to validate and improve financial estimates and models.
  • Design and implement machine learning models to analyze large datasets, identify trends, and generate insights that enhance financial management practices.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including financial analysts and statisticians, to integrate data science methodologies with financial modeling and budget execution processes.
  • Lead the analysis and visualization of complex financial data using tools like Python, R, SQL, and data visualization platforms such as Tableau or Power BI.
  • Engage with senior stakeholders to translate complex data and financial metrics into clear, actionable insights for strategic decision-making.
  • Ensure the accuracy, integrity, and compliance of data used in financial models and reporting by conducting rigorous quality control and validation.
  • Provide technical guidance and training to team members on data science best practices and tools.


Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Data Science, Statistics, Computer Science, Finance, or a related field with at least 3 years of experience in data analytics and financial modeling.
  • Demonstrated experience in applying data science techniques to financial modeling, including cost prediction, budget forecasting, and resource optimization.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to present complex data and analytical results to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Familiarity with federal financial management practices, including budget formulation and execution, is a plus.
  • US Citizenship or Permanent Residency and ability to obtain Public Trust clearance is required by the contract

 

 

Required Skills: 

  • Ability to assess problems and form business requirements through client conversation and other available data
  • Ability to develop technical approaches to solve problems
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Experience applying technology to manipulate, analyze, and report on data
  • Strong proficiency in programming languages such as Python, R, and SQL, with experience in statistical analysis and machine learning.
  • Strong proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Access, Word, PowerPoint)

 

 

Preferred Requirements:

  • Previous consulting experience in a federal environment.
  • Familiarity with data visualization platforms, such as Power BI or Tableau
