Location: Flexible. This person can work remotely from anywhere in the US or work from our corporate headquarters in Goleta, CA or our office in Chicago, IL, or any combination thereof.

Salary: $77-$82k annually, depending on experience

High-level description of Position

The Content Manager of Programs will help facilitate the development of internal and external communications and marketing materials designed to uplift and illuminate the technical work and efforts of our programmatic team. The Content Manager of Programs will sit within the Marketing division and work cross-divisionally—between the Marketing and Programs divisions—to provide marketing and communications support for the organization’s public health programming.


The Content Manager of Programs will use their technical background and expertise in project management, writing, and copy editing, and experience in creative content development to facilitate the development and launch of effective, technically accurate, and programs-appropriate marketing/communication assets.


The Content Manager of Programs will report to the Associate Marketing Director of Programs and be responsible for working with various creative staff/contractors (content lead, creative lead, programs multimedia designer, videographer, photo asset manager, etc.) and program team members to ‘bring to life’ creative initiatives including social content, video, long-form articles, newsletters, blog posts, webpages, learning solutions materials, technical documents, publications, concept notes, proposals, and various other items designed to enhance and communicate our technical work.


The ideal candidate will have a background in health communications, public health, nutrition, and/or international development, with demonstrated skills in writing for public health audiences, project management, liaising across a diverse set of internal and external stakeholders, fluency working with technical material (ideally in public health, nutrition, or related area), and a passion for the mission of Vitamin Angels. The Content Manager of Programs will apply their expertise in all aspects of marketing and communication while working to protect the technical accuracy of our work and promote, exemplify, and further the mission and values of Vitamin Angels.

Major Duties and Responsibilities

  • Work with Associate Marketing Director of Programs to build an annual editorial calendar designed to promote our technical work across a wide range of internal and external channels

  • Work with internal staff/contractors to support the development of project briefs and project manage work until completion

  • Develop content that enhances key partnerships, builds credibility with our technical audience, and deepens the impact of our work

  • Set and track KPIs and deliver regular reporting on content performance to assess the efficacy of various efforts, to inform future programmatic content development and strategy

  • Write copy for various channels including social posts, LinkedIn articles, video scripts, newsletters, blog articles, presentations, web content,case studies, annual reports, and various other outlets

  • Collaborate with Marketing team to ensure programmatic editorial calendar links back to the overall brand editorial calendar, marketing plans and content creation

  • Copy edit/proof various internal/external communications

  • Support communications efforts for all units within the programs division including Learning Solutions, Supply Chain, Implementation Science, Program Officers, Foundational/High Net Worth Giving as needed

  • Provide content for grant proposals and concept notes as needed

  • Develop organic and paid activation plans for technical content, and work with the digital marketing team to evaluate performance and identify opportunities to continually optimize

  • Support execution of conferences, webinars, and events for Programs

  • Leverage technical content to inform and help create content and communication that resonates with a diverse audience, including our donors, B2B, and B2C audiences

  • Support PR and external communications efforts by ‘packaging’ technical stories for media opportunities

  • Help to build out and package regional and local stories from our Program Officers and in-country Advisors for use across a variety of marketing touchpoints.

  • Update or add to various pages in WordPress

  • Other duties as assigned.


Level of Decision-Making


Within the bounds of Vitamin Angels’ mission, values, and policies, and sound professional practices, the Content Manager of Programs has the discretion to use independent judgment to make decisions of significant consequence that affect VA clients, partners, and employees.


Organizational Relationships


VA operates under a collaborative matrix management model. The Content Manager of Programs is supervised by the Associate Marketing Director of Programs (or their designee), coordinates his/her activities with other leaders (unit leads from Programs, Marketing, and various contractors) or their designated staff, and interacts daily with a range of members of the VA team. Each VA team member establishes work priorities and ensures that their individual activities are continuing within the context of an established schedule and budget.

Qualifications and Skills (required in bold)

  • Bachelor’s degree in marketing/communications or related field from an accredited university

  • 3+ years experience in a similar marketing/communications role focused on international development/nutrition/public health/health communications or comparable area

  • Strong creative and technical writing skills (writing samples required)

  • Experience writing short and long-form copy, copy editing, and proofing creative materials is required

  • Strong ‘eye’ for design. While no graphic design or illustration is required/expected, an understanding of marketing aesthetics is required

  • Strong Project Management experience

  • Experience using ClickUp (or similar project management software such as Asana, Trello, etc.)

  • Experience making basic updates in WordPress

  • High level of attention to detail and fluency working with highly technical information

  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision

  • Highly organized and detail-oriented

  • Strong outreach and verbal communication skills

  • Fluency in written and spoken English is required; Additional languages are a bonus

  • Ability to work in a global organization spanning all time zones

  • Ability to travel

  • Demonstrated ability to work well under pressure and manage multiple work streams

  • Ability to manage stress, including but not limited to stress resulting from local and foreign travel, large crowds, open spaces, and daily activities.
