Job Description

DUTIES AND ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS  

As a Software Engineer at Nauticus Robotics, you will play a critical role in designing, developing, and maintaining the software systems that power our advanced subsea robotics platforms. You will work closely with a multidisciplinary team of engineers and scientists to create robust and reliable software solutions for underwater exploration, data collection, and analysis. 

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to gather requirements and design software solutions for subsea robotic systems. 

  • Develop and maintain control systems, autonomy algorithms, and user interfaces for underwater vehicles. 

  • Implement real-time data processing, sensor fusion, and communication protocols for subsea applications. 

  • Participate in software testing, debugging, and system integration activities. 

  • Ensure code quality, performance, and reliability through rigorous testing and code reviews. 

  • Stay up-to-date with industry trends and emerging technologies in subsea robotics and software engineering.

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS  

Required 

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field (Master's degree preferred). 

  • Strong programming skills in C/C++ and proficiency in object-oriented design principles. 

  • Experience with real-time and embedded systems development. 

  • Familiarity with Linux-based development environments. 

  • Knowledge of control systems and algorithms. 

  • Excellent problem-solving and debugging skills. 

  • Effective communication and teamwork abilities. 

  • Strong commitment to safety and attention to detail. 

Preferred  

  • Master's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field. 

  • Experience with ROS (Robot Operating System) and robotics middleware.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly to remain in a stationary position. The employee will be required to operate a computer and will consistently use other office productivity machinery, such as a calculator, copy machine, and computer printer. The person in this position needs to move about inside the office to access filing cabinets, office machinery, etc. as necessary.  

  • The employee must possess the ability to communicate information and ideas so others will understand.   

  • The employee will frequently move, transport, position, install, and or remove equipment of at a minimum of up to 25 pounds for various needs.   

  • The employee must possess the ability to observe details at close range.  

  • The employee must be able maneuver in tight spaces.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Generally, this job operates in a professional office environment. This role may also require exposure to a variety of offshore platforms, various bodies of water, and small vessels.  

The performance of this position may also occasionally require exposure to the manufacturing areas, which may require the use of personal protective equipment such as safety glasses with side shields and mandatory hearing protection.
