General Summary

The ABA Training Specialist’s primary focus, under the direction of the BY YOUR SIDE University Skills Development Department, is conducting new hire training for incoming Behavior Technicians and Registered Behavior Technicians. The ABA Training Specialist will be responsible for delivering the content in a classroom format (e.g., ABA 101, RBT role-plays, etc.), assess the new hire’s competency of the learned skills through competency assessments, score competencies and quizzes, and support additional “with-client” training, as needed. The ABA Training Specialist will support initial and renewal RBT competency assessments (i.e., defined as the RBT “Assistant Trainer” through the BACB).

The ABA Training Specialist will assist the Manager- Skills Development with the preparation of orientation materials and tracking the completion of all training components for the new hires. The ABA Training Specialist does not design or modify clinical content but rather assists the Managers within the Skill Development Department in their implementation.

The ABA Training Specialist is a full-time position and operates in a professional and clinical environment. The employee may regularly lift and move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and move up to 50 pounds. Starting pay $21/hr

Essential Functions, Duties & Responsibilities

Core duties and responsibilities include the following:

  • Responsible for clocking in and clocking out.

  • Maintain and acquire technical knowledge by attending regular in-house training and meetings.

  • Maintain a 0-hour caseload

  • Comply with the RBT® Ethics Code issued by the Behavior Analyst Certification Board (BACB).

  • Responsible for orientation training for newly hired Registered/Behavior Technicians

  • Responsible for initial training, ongoing training, and performing fidelity checks for Approved Trainers during observation activities and specific client trainings.

  • Support new hires with additional on the floor training with clients with challenging behaviors, as needed.

  • May assist with creating training schedules for newly hired Registered Behavior Technicians/Behavior Technicians.

  • Responsible for the organization and maintenance of orientation materials.

  • Provide supplemental training for the RBT 40-hour certification training course by conducting practice sessions, role play, and conducting initial competency assessments (i.e., defined as the RBT “Assistant Trainer” through the BACB), under the direction of the Skills Development Department.

  • Lead and organize Initial Competency Assessments with RBT candidates through role play and within client sessions (i.e., defined as the RBT “Assistant Assessor” through the BACB), under the direction of the Skills Development Department.

  • Assist the BCBAs with RBT renewal competency assessments, as needed.

  • Assist with any additional training initiatives from Skills Development Department or Clinical Services department as needed.

  • Travel to provide temporary training coverage and ongoing training to newly certified and certified Registered Behavior Technicians in other centers, as needed.

  • Attend and participate in staff meetings and training provided to increase professional knowledge.

  • Completion of daily activities/routines within the center (i.e., opening/closing procedures, cleaning, organization and creation of material, etc.)

  • Be fluent with collecting data in Central Reach, writing insurance notes at the end of direct sessions, and converting all appointments within a specified period of time.

  • To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

  • Uphold and maintain BYS core principles, policies, and procedures.

  • Other duties may be assigned.

Training Protocol

Minimum training for an ABA Training Specialist:

  • Completion of all requirements of RBT training

  • Three (3) months of supervised training of new staff with client present, through direct observation by the leadership team within BY YOUR SIDE University.

  • Demonstration of proficiency in the material being delivered during orientation training, through direct observation by the leadership team within BY YOUR SIDE University.

  • Will be trained to be efficient with viewing schedules and documents in Central Reach

Skills Required

Include demonstrated competencies and physical, mental, & interpersonal skills.

  • Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) Certification required.

  • Bachelor's degree and/or enrolled in psychology, communication disorders, education or related field preferred.

  • Demonstrate proficiency with data collection system.

  • Familiar with the organizational structure of therapy materials.

  • Creation and compiling of therapy materials (e.g., Orientation binder)

  • Active, good standing employee with no disciplinary action or performance improvement plan that has been in effect for the past 90 days at BY YOUR SIDE.

  • Comfortable working with variety of client behaviors in various environments.

  • High interest in working with children on the autism spectrum.

  • Ability to maintain quality, safety and infection control standards.

  • Must be able to communicate and provide effective coaching to others.

  • Must be comfortable training adults on topics related to applied behavior analysis

  • Knowledge of behavior functions and strategies, preferred.

  • Ability to engage in excellent problem-solving skills.

  • Ability to work effectively and efficiently with changing priorities and deadlines.

  • Excellent time management skills with the ability to multi-task, prioritize, execute on deadlines and produce high quality deliverables with attention to details.

  • Must be dependable and reliable.

  • Must be a quick learner and be proficient in Microsoft Office Products, Word, Excel and Outlook.
