Title: Product Engineer

Shift: Day Shift, on the floor 75% of time, office 25%

Pay: $120,000 (+/- depending on experience)

Location: Austintown, OH

Product Engineer Role:

The Product Engineer collaborates with other product design, development, and process engineers, manufacturing engineers, programmers, sales, operations, and other stakeholders to create product drawings and processes that ensure customer expectations, quality, manufacturability, productivity, and cost-effectiveness goals are met.

This position applies engineering principles to solve practical problems and interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, verbal, diagrammatic, or schedule form. The position may also be responsible for investigating and developing solutions for new or modified products or processes.

Product Engineer Responsibilities:

• Performs all responsibilities within the guidelines, policies, and best practices established by the company, while taking personal accountability for the accuracy, thoroughness, and timeliness of all work performed.

• Provides on-site support to manufacturing, quality, planning, and sales personnel regarding drawings, routings, or other specifications to ensure accuracy and manufacturability.

• May provide support for the design of jigs, fixtures, and component parts for the production process, as requested by manufacturing operations.

• Utilizes SolidWorks and/or AutoCAD to develop detailed models and/or drawings and sketches for quotation and production purposes; indicating and specifying dimensions, tolerances, etc.

• Reviews Production Drawings, Routes, Orders and Quotes and ensures accuracy prior to release.

• Interprets and clarifies industrial specifications for accuracy and customer needs.

• Demonstrates continuous improvement behaviors by participating in continuous learning and development of knowledge and skills required to effectively perform the essential functions of this role, identifying and resolving

problems and offering and implementing suggestions that promote the achievement of team and company objectives.

• Maintains thorough, accurate, and updated documentation of all activities based on company expectations and practices.

• Maintains a safe, clean, orderly (visually managed) work environment to promote safety, productivity, and consideration of an open office environment along with behaviors that are considerate of others in an open office environment.

• Performs other responsibilities as assigned and/or as needed to support company objectives.

• Meets on-site and other attendance requirements to effectively build positive relationships and interact with all employees.

• Conducts collaborative design reviews with a cross functional team of engineers, production, programming, supply chain, and other teams as applicable to ensure manufacturability.

• Coordinates planned time off with manager and team members to maintain adequate coverage for sales and manufacturing support.

• Travels approximately 5-15% (internationally and domestically) to fulfill the essential functions of this role, such as supporting customer needs, attending trade shows, working with outside vendors, universities, and other partners.

Design and Process Engineering

• Designs and assists in the design of barrels, screws, and related components, incorporating customer requirements, applications and mechanical engineering principles, and company manufacturing capabilities to ensure design for manufacturability.

• Converts drawings to metric specification scales for use in international operations. Develops and performs dual dimensioning activities on all metric-based drawings.

• Checks all customer revision drawings to existing company drawings to ensure manufacturability.

• Reviews all manufacturing drawings to ensure standardization and accuracy before releasing for manufacture.

• Provides on-site support to manufacturing, quality, and sales personnel regarding deviation sketches, thread

measurements software, general drafting procedures/issues, CNC programming calculations, etc.

• Assists technicians in developing drawings for product.

• Evaluates barrels and screws for repair or replacement recommendations in-house and in the field.

• Develops detailed routings and creates bills of material as required for all products using the company quote tools and other tools as appropriate.

• Creates Main Item and Component Part Numbers in the ERP system (AX) following proper protocol.

• Analyzes sales orders against customer purchase orders and reviews drawings to ensure customer requirements and specifications are achieved.

• Collaborates with sales, supply chain, and other teams to develop accurate costs/cost models for complex parts that are not included in the scope provided by the company quote tools; makes suggestions on enhancements to expand quote tool use.

About you:

• Associate degree or equivalent in mechanical or plastics engineering (may consider material science degree) or a related discipline or 10 years of directly related experience without a degree.

• High degree of proficiency in 2D and 3D modeling software.

• Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to effectively communicate technical details to non-technical people.

• Ability to learn and maintain a strong working knowledge of internal manufacturing procedures and capabilities.

• Moderate to high degree of personal computer skills, including Microsoft products such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Power BI, and Access or willingness and ability to learn.

• Strong collaboration skills to work effectively with cross-functional team members to identify and solve problems, resolve conflicts, and optimize opportunities as well as perform as a strong individual contributor.

• Ability to meet attendance requirements, including on-site, travel, and occasional extra hours or non-standard schedules to meet the needs of the business.

• Ability to occasionally travel to customer facilities to assist sales with technical issues or making sketches for part duplication. Travel is approximately 5-15% and may require overnight and/or international travel.

• Ability to run injection and extrusion machines to test new products may be required (NPD specific) • Able to write clear and concise reports to communicate test results and next steps.

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor degree or equivalent in mechanical or plastics engineering or a related discipline. May consider material science degree.

• High degree of proficiency in SolidWorks and/or AutoCAD
