While the firm handles a variety of legal matters, this role will provide critical support to two dedicated criminal law attorneys.
Responsibilities:
  • Conduct legal research related to criminal law, including statutes, case law, and legal procedures
  • Assist attorneys in preparing legal documents, such as motions, pleadings, and discovery requests
  • Interview clients and witnesses, gather information, and prepare case summaries
  • Organize and maintain case files, ensuring all documents are complete and up-to-date
  • Schedule appointments, manage attorney calendars, and track deadlines
  • Prepare exhibits and presentations for court appearances
  • Attend court hearings, trials, and depositions with attorneys, providing real-time assistance
  • Communicate professionally and courteously with clients, witnesses, law enforcement officials, and court personnel
  • Conduct client intake interviews, explain legal processes, and manage client expectations
  • Maintain a strong understanding of the criminal justice system in North Carolina
  • Independently identify and solve problems, taking initiative to anticipate attorney needs
Qualifications:
  • Minimum 3 years of experience as a Criminal Law Legal Assistant or Paralegal
  • Strong understanding of criminal law principles, procedures, and legal terminology
  • Excellent research, writing, and communication skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Ability to prioritize tasks, manage multiple deadlines, and work independently
  • Highly organized and detail-oriented with a strong work ethic
  • Assertive and professional demeanor with the ability to effectively manage client interactions
  • Experience in a fast-paced legal environment preferred
  • Must be able to travel to courthouses within the greater Winston-Salem area
