Essential Function:

The Merchandising Own Brand Sr Manager will help develop and lead the strategic vision, management, and activation of Sally Beauty’s Own Brand brands portfolio. The candidate will interface day to day with outside agencies and cross functional teams to define the brand strategy and brand positioning from planning through execution, and we pull in a collective perspective of expertise with each client brief to tap into diverse thinking and building strategies reflective of the marketplace, our Sally customer and the culture we work within.  This position is a hybrid role, reporting into the corporate office in Denton, TX on Tuesdays and Wednesdays of each work week.

Primary Duties:

  • Collaborate with consumer insights on understanding consumers’ key barriers and path to purchase; define brands’ financial targets and growth priorities across different categories
  • Partner with PD team to develop 3-year brand innovation master plan to deliver brand vision and financial targets. 
  • Own and work with cross functional teams to measure performance of brand refreshes tracking ROI, adjust and pivot where needed to get maximum growth. 
  • Brand Equity/ Story Creation: Work & negotiate with creative/ brand agencies to define brand mission design brand equity pyramid (e.g., key benefits, brand character, visual ID, differentiation).  Collaborate cross functionally with marketing to align and engage story creation into field and ATL marketing for own brands. 
  • Lead ideation of Brand Innovation:
    • New Brand Development: Lead new brand launches; partner with cross-functional team on developing brand equity, collateral, pricing strategy, etc.
    • Brand Refresh concept development: work with brand agency and vendor to develop brand refresh idea/concept, including product marketing tagline in store and on digital platform.
  • Work with other team functions (e.g. Creative, Social Impact, Insights etc.) to ensure goals and objectives are met
  • Create presentations for key meetings internally and externally
    • Track activation budgets with accountability for reporting
  • Partner with cross-functional teams on New SKU Innovation: ensure new product launches are in line with overall brand equity and brand strategies. 
  • Collaborate with merchants and pricing teams to ensure Good/Better/Best OB pricing architecture is inline with brand architecture. 
  • Cooperate with marketing team to ensure marketing assets are in line with brand equity
    • Align x-functionally and with brand agency to deliver OB visual guide with Web copy and Photo team of own brand brands. 
    • Develop packaging standards for new brands/categories that meet our PD values:  Quality, Aesthetics, Innovation & Value
    • Provide input for photoshoot as a support for marketing to understand and connect brand and product. (e.g.: product layout)

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Working Conditions /Physical Requirements
 

  • The work environment involves everyday risks or discomforts which require normal safety precautions typical of such places as offices, meeting and training rooms, retail stores, and residences or commercial vehicles, e.g., use of safe work practices with office equipment, avoidance of trips and falls, observance of fire regulations and traffic signals, etc. The work area is adequately lighted, heated, and ventilated.
  • The work is sedentary. Typically, the employee may sit comfortably to do the work. However, there may be some walking; standing; bending; carrying of light items such as papers, files, books, small parts; using a keyboard, driving an automobile, etc. No special physical demands are required to perform the work.
