What’s a typical day as a Federal Tax Audit Manager? You’ll be:

• Leading and managing all stages of U.S. federal tax audits and controversy, including corporate income tax, employment tax, withholding tax, and excise tax audits.

• Developing and implementing comprehensive audit defense plans in collaboration with federal tax compliance and tax planning teams, internal departments, and external advisors.

• Preparing and presenting clear and concise explanations of tax positions to IRS auditors.

• Gathering, reviewing, and delivering information to the IRS in response to information and document requests.

• Attending regular meetings with the IRS and being the main contact person with IRS agents.

• Assisting with negotiating resolutions of tax controversies with IRS Appeals.

• Researching and analyzing complex tax issues.

• Building audit-ready files to support the company's tax positions.

• Ensuring uncertain tax positions are correctly reported in the financial statements.

• Implementing tools to organize and track progress of audits, deadlines, deliverables, etc.

• Keeping management and other key stakeholders informed on federal tax audit matters.

• Keeping the state income tax compliance and audit teams informed of federal tax audit topics that may have an impact on state tax positions.

• Building strong work relationships with key internal stakeholders.

• Staying current on changes in federal tax laws and IRS audit procedures.

• Managing the performance and spend with external audit advisors.

• Maintaining the highest ethical standards and promoting open and transparent communication.

This job might be an outstanding fit if you:

• Have a Bachelor's degree in Finance or Accounting.

• Have an advanced degree or professional certification preferred (CPA, LLM, JD, MBA, MA, MS).

• Have 10+ years of related experience at a professional level.

• Have relevant experience working directly with the IRS.

• Have excellent analytical, verbal, and written communication skills.

• Have in-depth knowledge of the Internal Revenue Code and IRS audit procedures.

• Have excellent interpersonal, diplomatic, and negotiation skills.

• Embrace the use of technology for the improvement of tax processes.

• Are able to challenge the status quo and persuade others to implement change.

• Are a self-starter and can build relationships in a large organization.

• Have flexibility to adapt to changes in scope and open to future rotation within other areas within the tax organization.

• Have the ability to multi-task and manage workload efficiently.
