Job Summary: We are seeking a skilled and dedicated Plant Maintenance Technician to join our team in Phoenix, Arizona. As a Plant Maintenance Technician, you will be responsible for ensuring the smooth operation of all plant systems and equipment. This includes, but is not limited to, balers, conveyor belts, gearboxes, electrical motors, pulleys, shafts, and bearings. You will be pivotal in responding to system failures and taking appropriate corrective action to maintain operational efficiency and safety. This role reports to the Plant Maintenance Manager, with potential variations based on the site.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Perform repairs in compliance with Waste Management Safety and Life Critical Rules and OSHA (Occupational Safety and Health Act) requirements.
- Conduct preventive maintenance inspections (PM); diagnose, repair, and rebuild major equipment/components, including balers, conveyors, hydraulic power packs, eddy currents, electro-magnetic belts, optical sorters, diverters, compressors, trash compactors, motors, glass breakers, wire tie systems, fans, pumps, forklifts, front-end loaders, and building equipment.
- Maintain DEI (Daily Equipment Inspections) backlog.
- Adjust work procedures to meet production schedules and inform the Sr. Plant Maintenance Manager if additional work is needed or cannot be completed within Standard Repair Times (SRTs).
- Inspect the quality of third-party repairs and rebuilds.
- Recommend measures to improve production, equipment performance, and product quality.
- Manage multiple priorities and perform under limited supervision.
- Provide emergency breakdown service calls.
- Maintain a clean, safe work area in compliance with Corporate/OSHA standards, adhering to established safety procedures.
- Flexible work schedule, which may include nights and weekends to support operating schedules and facility needs.
Qualifications:
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- Legally eligible to work in the United States.
- Ability to meet the physical requirements of the position with or without reasonable accommodations.
- Successfully complete pre-employment drug screen, physical, and background check, including previous employment verification, criminal history, and motor vehicle record review.
Education and Experience:
- Education: High School Diploma or GED (accredited).
- Experience: Minimum of two years of relevant work experience.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Proficiency in single and three-phase electrical systems.
- Knowledge of electrical control, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems, including air compressors.
- Safe operation of tools and equipment needed for repair and servicing.
- Ability to diagnose defects and repair a variety of equipment and vehicles.
Work Environment:
- Motor coordination with arm, hand, finger, and leg dexterity is required.
- Physical effort in handling objects more than 50 pounds frequently.
- Requires pushing, pulling, bending, twisting, and lifting up to 50 lbs.
- Exposure to dirt, odors, noise, weather extremes, or similar elements for most of the workday.
