Position Title: Commercial Roofing Estimator

Job Summary: The commercial roofing estimator plays a crucial role in the construction process by accurately assessing the costs and materials needed for roofing projects in commercial buildings. Working closely with project managers, contractors, and clients, the estimator ensures that projects are completed within budget and according to specifications.

Responsibilities:

  1. Project Assessment: Evaluate project requirements by reviewing blueprints, specifications, and site visits to determine the scope of work, materials needed, and labor requirements.

  2. Cost Estimation: Prepare detailed cost estimates for roofing projects, including materials, labor, equipment, and overhead expenses. Utilize pricing databases, historical data, and industry knowledge to ensure accuracy.

  3. Proposal Preparation: Develop comprehensive proposals and bids for potential clients, outlining project details, timelines, costs, and terms. Collaborate with sales teams to present proposals and address client inquiries.

  4. Material Selection: Recommend appropriate roofing materials based on project specifications, budget constraints, and durability requirements. Coordinate with suppliers to obtain pricing and availability information.

  5. Risk Assessment: Identify potential risks and challenges associated with roofing projects, such as weather conditions, site accessibility, or structural issues. Develop mitigation strategies to minimize risks and ensure project success.

  6. Contract Negotiation: Negotiate contracts with clients, subcontractors, and suppliers, ensuring favorable terms and conditions while protecting the company's interests.

  7. Documentation: Maintain accurate records of project estimates, contracts, change orders, and correspondence. Update project documentation as needed throughout the construction process.

  8. Collaboration: Work closely with project managers, architects, engineers, and subcontractors to coordinate project activities and resolve issues as they arise. Participate in pre-construction meetings and site visits as required.

  9. Industry Trends: Stay informed about the latest developments in roofing materials, technologies, and construction methods. Attend training sessions, workshops, and industry conferences to enhance skills and knowledge.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in construction management, engineering, or related field (preferred).
  • Proven experience as a roofing estimator in commercial construction projects.
  • Proficiency in construction estimating software, such as PlanSwift, AccuLynx, or Xactimate.
  • Strong analytical and mathematical skills, with attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication and negotiation abilities.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Knowledge of building codes, regulations, and safety standards.
  • Valid driver's license and willingness to travel to project sites as needed.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to visit construction sites and navigate uneven terrain, stairs, and ladders.
  • Capable of lifting and carrying materials weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Comfortable working in outdoor environments and varying weather conditions.
