Position Overview:

As a Civil Estimator specializing in commercial and residential site work, you will be responsible for accurately estimating the costs associated with various construction projects. You will play a crucial role in our bidding process, ensuring that our proposals are competitive while maintaining profitability. This position requires a deep understanding of civil engineering principles, project management, and construction cost estimation.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Cost Estimation: Analyze project plans, specifications, and other documentation to prepare detailed cost estimates for commercial and residential site work projects, including earthwork, utilities, grading, paving, and landscaping.
  2. Bid Preparation: Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and subcontractors to develop comprehensive bid proposals that meet client requirements and project specifications. Ensure that all bids are submitted accurately and on time.
  3. Quantity Takeoff: Conduct quantity takeoffs for materials, labor, and equipment required for each project. Utilize industry-standard estimating software and tools to streamline the takeoff process and improve accuracy.
  4. Vendor and Subcontractor Relations: Solicit quotes and negotiate pricing with vendors and subcontractors to secure the best value for materials and services. Maintain strong relationships with suppliers to ensure timely delivery and competitive pricing.
  5. Cost Analysis: Evaluate project costs against budgets and identify areas for cost savings or value engineering. Work closely with project teams to develop cost-effective solutions without compromising quality or safety standards.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or related field.
  • Proven experience as a Civil Estimator with a focus on commercial and residential site work projects.
  • Proficiency in construction cost estimating software such as Bluebeam, Planswift, or equivalent.
  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication and negotiation abilities.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Knowledge of industry best practices, codes, and regulations related to site development and construction.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with value engineering and cost-saving strategies.
  • Familiarity with building information modeling (BIM) software.
  • Previous experience working for a general contractor or construction management firm.
