Job Overview: The Plumbing Superintendent is responsible for overseeing all on-site plumbing activities related to large commercial projects. This role requires a deep understanding of plumbing systems, strong leadership abilities, and extensive experience in managing the installation of complex plumbing systems in commercial buildings. The Plumbing Superintendent ensures that all plumbing work is completed according to project plans, on time, within budget, and in compliance with all relevant safety and quality standards.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Project Oversight:
  • Manage and supervise the installation of plumbing systems on large commercial construction projects, ensuring all work meets project specifications and quality standards.
  • Coordinate with project managers, general contractors, and other trades to ensure seamless integration of plumbing systems with other building systems.
  • Monitor project schedules and adjust work plans as needed to meet deadlines.
  • Team Management:
  • Lead and supervise a team of plumbers and plumbing subcontractors, providing direction, support, and training as needed.
  • Conduct regular site meetings to communicate project goals, expectations, and updates to the plumbing team.
  • Evaluate team performance and implement improvement plans to enhance productivity and quality.
  • Quality Control:
  • Conduct regular inspections of plumbing work to ensure compliance with building codes, safety regulations, and project specifications.
  • Identify and address any issues or deficiencies in the plumbing installation, implementing corrective actions as necessary.
  • Ensure all plumbing installations are tested and functioning properly before project completion.
  • Safety Management:
  • Enforce strict adherence to safety protocols and regulations on the job site.
  • Conduct regular safety meetings and training sessions for the plumbing team.
  • Investigate and report any safety incidents, and work to prevent future occurrences.
  • Coordination and Communication:
  • Coordinate with other trades, suppliers, and vendors to ensure timely delivery of materials and services.
  • Maintain open and effective communication with the project manager, general contractor, and other stakeholders.
  • Provide regular updates on the progress of plumbing work, including any potential delays or issues.
  • Documentation and Reporting:
  • Maintain accurate records of all plumbing work, including daily logs, material usage, and inspections.
  • Prepare and submit reports on project status, labor usage, and material costs.
  • Ensure that all required permits and inspections are obtained and documented.

Qualifications:

  • Education:
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; a degree or certification in plumbing or construction management is preferred.
  • Experience:
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in plumbing, with at least 3 years in a supervisory role on large commercial projects.
  • Extensive knowledge of commercial plumbing systems, building codes, and safety regulations.
  • Skills:
  • Strong leadership and team management skills.
  • Excellent problem-solving abilities and attention to detail.
  • Superior communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications.
  • Proficiency in construction management software is a plus.
  • Certifications:
  • Journeyman or Master Plumber certification is required.
  • OSHA 30 certification is required.
  • First Aid/CPR certification is preferred.
