Description

Under the direct supervision of an Intern Primary Supervisor and existing leadership within the Behavioral Health Department, the Violence Recovery Program (VRP) Student Intern provides counseling, support groups, advocacy, and referral services to those being served by the VRP within the Behavioral Health Department, 24 hours per week for the academic school year from September through May, exact dates depending.

Representative Duties:

Provides direct clinical services to clients, 12 hours per week:

  1. Provides short-term therapy to VRP clients, using established therapeutic processes.
  2. Co-facilitates group therapy/support groups to VRP/BH clients, using established practices.
  3. Assists clients in accessing the criminal justice system and/or securing counseling and social services by giving client information and/or contacting service providers directly, accompanies clients to Court and/or police, as appropriate.
  4. Develops and maintains contacts in other assistance agencies; maintains updated referral lists, conducting outreach to service providers and community organizations about VRP services.
  5. Maintain a caseload of 10 clients by end of 1st month.
  6. Offer at least one clinical hour in the morning between 8-10 am, and at least 1 clinical hour in the late afternoon (5 or 6 pm).
  7. All clinical hours must be provided on-site at 1340 Boylston St., though clinical sessions may be virtual to clients.
  8. Adheres to NASW Code of Ethics.

Performs and completes clinical documentation/administrative tasks accurately and in a timely manner, 7-8 hours per week:

  1. Writes case notes for each client interaction, for review and co-signature by Intern Supervisor.
  2. Completes session notes, assessments, and discharge summaries according to department standards and in accordance with Fenway policy.
  3. Provides consultation to, and collaborates with, the other health care providers that constitute a client's health care team.

Participate in Intern Programming, 4-5 hours per week:

  1. Participates in regularly scheduled supervision, 1 hour per week.
  2. Including audio/written process recording activities as requested.
  3. Attends and contributes to Intern Group Meeting, 1 hour per week.
  4. Participates in cross-training and job shadowing activities outside of VRP, 1 hour per week as appropriate.
  5. Attends VRP team meetings, 1 hour per week.
  6. Participates in Fenway Health BH Intern Training Seminars, 1 hour every other week.

  9. Maintains professional competence necessary to perform job responsibilities; maintains and provides agency with records of continuing education activities.

Performs other related duties as required.


Requirements

  1. Active enrollment in a graduate degree program in related field (e.g. Social Work or Counseling) required.
  2. Flexibility, adaptability, and ability to multitask.
  3. Counseling and/or related experience required.
  4. Successful completion of college level course work focused on understanding human behavior, basic counseling theoretical frameworks, and basic diagnostic assessments.
  5. Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  6. Experience working within an ethnically, culturally, and racially diverse team.
  7. Ability to work harmoniously with diverse groups of individuals required.

Preferred Qualifications:

  1. Ability to document timely and accurately in fast-paced environments.
  2. Previous advocacy/case management experience.
  3. Previous experience in outpatient therapy settings.
  4. Prior knowledge of impacts of domestic violence, interpersonal violence, and/or trauma.
  5. Experience with LGBTQIA+ issues, HIV, and trauma.
  6. Experience with substance use disorders, short-term interventions, and group work.

Physical Requirements:

  1. Ability to meet the following physical requirements with or without reasonable accommodations:

  3. Ability to keyboard for extended periods of time.
