Executive Director, Brockton Behavioral Health CenterReporting to the Chief Operating Officer of BMC, the Executive Director is responsible for the overall leadership, patient care, direction, and strategic expansion of the Brockton Behavioral Health Center. The Executive Director works closely with the Chair of Psychiatry, Chief Nursing Officer and other executives, and collaborates with the respective service line Chiefs and fellow service line directors. Together, this team is charged with providing excellent care at the Center.Key Responsibilities Directs, coordinates and manages all aspects of the behavioral health treatment programming at the Center. Manages a budget of approximately $23M and oversees a staff of 200 people. Works with the Chief of Psychiatry and Medical Directors of psychiatry, addiction medicine and nursing to maintain an environment committed to the highest standards of quality care, patient safety and customer service by identifying and implementing innovative approaches to improving care. Designs procedures for evaluating the effectiveness of the Behavioral Health program's treatment process to assure the program goals and objectives, patient needs and compliance with all applicable quality standards as well as federal, state, and local licensure requirements, codes and regulations are being met. Develops quarterly reporting mechanisms inclusive of operations, financial and growth metrics. Participates in local and state-wide behavioral health task force meetings. Performs regular Leader Rounding on all units and responds to Center emergencies, as needed. Works collaboratively to develop appropriate operational metrics as they relate to physician practices and service line expansion. Participates in hospital operations and performance improvement committees. Collaborates with Chiefs, service line directors, and nursing leadership, especially on program planning, budgeting, recruitment, office and space allocation. Collaborates with Finance and other departments for capital planning relative to Behavioral Health service lines in collaboration with each clinical Vice President, Chief, and RN leadership. Participates in recruitment of physicians and key leaders within the service line. Adheres to DMH, DPH, TJC and BSAS licensing and operating standards. Ensures proper and economical use of equipment, supplies and facilities for maintaining patient care. Fosters a culture of safety through personal ownership and commitment to a safe environment. Commits to recognize and respect cultural diversity for all customers (internal and external). Is intentional about fostering and operationalizing a culture of equity, diversity and inclusion among both staff and patients.Desired Credentials & Characteristics Behavioral health license in Massachusetts or ability to obtain Massachusetts license Extensive experience in operations and financial leadership at an inpatient psychiatric facility Ability to navigate the complexity of a large academic medical center Deep familiarity with regulatory and compliance requirementsBROCKTON BEHAVIORAL HEALTH CENTERAs part of Boston Medical Center's mission to provide comprehensive, holistic care, and to help fill an important unmet need in Massachusetts, BMC Brockton Behavioral Health Center (BBHC) provides innovative care to people with substance use disorders and mental illness. The Center includes 3 secured inpatient psychiatry units and a 26-bed Clinical Stabilization Service unit. BMC is the largest safety-net hospital and leading provider of 24/7 behavioral health and crisis services in New England.Patients in the Center are primarily referred from other providers, including Emergency Departments. The psychiatric units serve patients aged 16 and up who pose an imminent risk to themselves or others, and they can address co-occurring substance use disorder needs. The clinical stabilization service provides an important step-down function from detox or inpatient care, with extensive 24-hour care.In April 2023, BBHC expanded its inpatient psychiatric operational capacity from 56 to 80 beds. From October 2022 to September 2023, the Center admitted 1,384 patients to its inpatient psychiatry units. During the same period, it admitted 363 patients to its Clinical Stabilization Service units.BBHC prides itself on its humanistic, holistic treatment of patients suffering with mental illness.
