Do you want to make a difference and be part of a vibrant and inclusive organisation that has been helping save lives for more than a century? As one of the country’s best-loved charities, St John Ambulance played a pivotal role in responding to the pandemic as well as ‘everyday’ health emergencies, training, supporting communities and improving young people’s lives.
The NHS Cadets Project aims to support young people to learn about the NHS and prepare them for either a clinical or non-clinical future healthcare pathway. As a Project Lead, your role is to lead the delivery of the NHS Cadets programme through 1.5 – 2 hour sessions with young people from marginalised communities across the UK who are involved with the NHS Cadet Programme. You will also complete 3 hours flexible planning. The sessions will be delivered either face to face on partner NHS Trust buildings or SJA buildings, in a hybrid way or virtually; during term time. You should also be flexible over travel and the ability to also work evenings and weekends to provide assistance at residential activities when required or offered. Please note you must be 18+ to apply for this role.
We pride ourselves on being a great place to work, providing a supportive culture with opportunities to grow and develop your career, achieve a healthy work-life balance and to be recognised for the great work you do. The role benefits from a competitive salary, generous pension, hybrid, flexible working, 33 days holiday (inclusive of bank holidays) - increasing to 38 days over 5 years, options to buy and sell holiday, free first/mental aid first aider courses, Blue Light and NHS online shopping discounts, cycle to work scheme, life assurance, flu jab, eye care, mental health and wellbeing tools and volunteering days.
About You:- Educated to GCSE level or equivalent (Grade C/4) in 5 subjects including Maths & English
- Experience of teaching/training/demonstrating or coaching young people
- An understanding of Youth/community work and barriers faced by marginalised communities
- Strong organisational ability with experience of leading the delivery of a programme
- Excellent communication skills with experience of tailoring content to suit a variety of audiences and supporting young people to achieve their potential
- Recruit young people onto the NHS Cadets Programme and encourage those enrolled to maximise opportunities available to them
- Supervise St John Ambulance youth support staff and volunteers to deliver the programme
- Support as needed with the evaluation of the programme and the production of reports
- Deliver the programme effectively ensuring the content is engaging and administration is completed
- Perform any other duties commensurate with these responsibilities, the band of the post and skills and qualifications of the post-holder.
This is a fantastic opportunity to join a team of over 1,700 employees and over 30,000 volunteers, united by our goal of saving lives through essential first aid services, training and campaigning. As a charity with rich heritage and a long history of serving humanity, we are proud of our past and excited about creating a healthier, safer, more resilient future.
St John Ambulance works at the heart of communities, supporting and enabling them to access and receive physical and mental health first aid. We do this through developing and providing effective community response and outreach services (e.g. Ambulance response, Falls response, Night Time Economy and Homelessness outreach) and using our longstanding expertise to empower people with vital clinical skills and the confidence to use them (e.g. our Volunteers and Community Advocates, NHS Cadets and Young Responders programmes).
