Position Summary

Boston Semi equipment (BSE) is looking for a creative and collaborative Manufacturing Technical Writer who has experience in a manufacturing company translating complex technical information into relatable content. As a Manufacturing Technical Writer at BSE you will collaborate with subject matter experts from engineering, manufacturing, and service to produce high-quality documentation, including assembly instructions, build and test procedures, user manuals and maintenance manuals.

To be successful as a Technical Writer, you should be a team player, but also capable of working independently. Ultimately, an exceptional Technical Writer should be adept to work on a variety of tasks with limited supervision as well as demonstrate excellent communication, organization, and problem-solving skills.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Write and maintain technical documents including but not limited to: Assembly and Test instructions, SOPs, User Manuals, Maintenance Manuals, and Service Bulletins.
  • Absorb technical information from diverse sources and convert it into clear, concise, and comprehensive documents. Sources may include assembly drawings, part drawings, engineering source documents, verbal descriptions and meetings with engineers, manufacturing engineers, assemblers, technicians, and field service engineers.
  • Use photographs, images, drawings, diagrams, animation, and charts to increase users’ understanding,
  • Participate in design reviews and observe manufacturing processes to gain understanding and identify areas needing additional documentation or clarification.
  • Manage and organize technical documents in a controlled content management system for easy access and retrieval by relevant personnel.
  • Partner with Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, and Documentation control to transfer new products to manufacturing.
  • Other duties and responsibilities will be assigned as needed.

Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities)

  • Bachelor’s Degree in English/Communications or a technical discipline, a Technical Writing Certificate, or demonstrated excellence in technical writing and communication.
  • 3+ years of professional technical writing experience in a manufacturing company
  • Strong writing, editing and communication skills with an attention to detail
  • Experience interacting with and collaborating with subject matter experts in manufacturing, engineering, and service
  • Ability to understand assembly drawings, part drawings and electrical schematics
  • Experience viewing and exporting from SolidWorks desired
  • Experience with ECO, DCO, and documentation control processes
  • Experience developing documents using Microsoft Word, Adobe FrameMaker, Adobe Acrobat Professional or other technical writing applications.
  • Experience with software tools to develop or convert graphics for use in documentation.
  • Computer skills including all MS Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint) required.
  • Experience working with limited direct supervision.
  • Must have strong interpersonal skills and good judgment and be capable of communicating with a diverse range of individuals.
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate with a cross-functional team.
  • Ability to develop and manage project timelines and communicate project status
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
