The Development Officer, Grants is responsible for assisting with the grants program for the Network, including grants from private and public sources. This individual will assist with research to identify and match funding resources to meet specific Network needs; assist in the implementation of effective grant program and project design/development; work with specific managers and staff across the Network to prepare and submit written grant proposals; and assist with post-award grant management practices including analysis of outcomes and reporting. He/she will help cultivate and maintain relationships between grant-seeking Network staff and funders.
JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Research, write and submit grant proposals/applications, additional reporting requirements and letters of intent (LOIs) to institutional funders, including, but not limited to, foundations, businesses, corporations, organizations and government agencies at all levels to maximize support across St. Luke’s University Health Network. Plays an integral part in reaching fundraising goals through grant proposal writing and securing mission-focused philanthropic gifts.
Conducts in-depth research and identify grant opportunities using a variety of online, written and other sources.
Assists with identification and review of grant guidelines, requests for letters of intent (LOIs) and proposals (RFPs) and assists in the design of an engaging written proposal for project/program. Works with a variety of departments across the Network to prepare compelling proposals/applications and reports on project/program, including a needs analysis, case statement, human and financial resources necessary to carry out, evaluate and report outcomes on the grant-seeking project/program.
Assists in establishing and stewarding strong relationships with institutional funders to promote partnerships.
Maintains on-going reporting of grant opportunities, including grants applied for, status of applications, submission deadlines, required materials, etc. using the Raiser’s Edge Database and in coordination with other members of the grants and development team.
Works collaboratively with internal and external partners to implement, allocate, manage, steward and evaluate grant outcomes.
Documents all significant grantor contacts in the Raiser’s Edge Database and provides updated contact information to ensure reliability of database. Uses Database to record future stewardship actions and communicates grant requirements and deadlines to grant-funded program manager/team.
Maintains confidentiality of all materials handled within the Network/ Entity as well as the proper release of information.
Complies with Network and departmental policies regarding issues of employee, patient and environmental safety and follows appropriate reporting requirements.
Demonstrates/models the Network’s Service Excellence Standards of Performance in interactions with all customers (internal and external).
Demonstrates Performance Improvement in the following areas as appropriate: Clinical Care/Outcomes, Customer/Service Improvement, Operational System/Process, and Safety.
Demonstrates financial responsibility and accountability through the effective and efficient use of resources in daily procedures, processes and practices.
Complies with Network and departmental policies regarding attendance and dress code.
Maintains security of the donor database. Represents St. Luke’s on external community fundraising efforts for the Network. Other related duties as assigned.

PHYSICAL AND SENSORY REQUIREMENTS:
Sitting for up to eight hours per day, up to two hours at a time. Walking for up to one hour per day, up to 15 minutes at a time. Involves frequent fingering, firm grasping, handling and twisting and turning. Occasional lifting and carrying objects up to 25 pounds. Occasional stooping, bending and reaching above shoulder level. Hearing as it relates to normal conversation. Seeing as it relates to general vision, near vision, color vision, peripheral vision and visual monotony.
EDUCATION:
Bachelors degree or equivalent work experience of 3+ years of related work; grant proposal and report writing experience, demonstrating competency in development functions related to grant proposal writing and grant management. Proven track record of securing and retaining grants. Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite; database experience with Raiser’s Edge preferred.
TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:
Excellent, clear and effective verbal and written communication skills with exceptional attention to details. Highly developed organizational skills required. Knowledge of and experience with the techniques of identification, cultivation, and grant proposal creation and submission for grantor/grant-making organizations. Experience with federal grants management highly desirable. Able to handle multiple assignments concurrently without complications.
