San Francisco CA United States MongoDB Full time

MongoDB’s mission is to empower innovators to create, transform, and disrupt industries by unleashing the power of software and data. We enable organizations of all sizes to easily build, scale, and run modern applications by helping them modernize legacy workloads, embrace innovation, and unleash AI. Our industry-leading developer data platform, MongoDB Atlas, is the only globally distributed, multi-cloud database and is available in more than 115 regions across AWS, Google Cloud, and Microsoft Azure. Atlas allows customers to build and run applications anywhere—on premises, or across cloud providers. With offices worldwide and over 175,000 new developers signing up to use MongoDB every month, it’s no wonder that leading organizations, like Samsung and Toyota, trust MongoDB to build next-generation, AI-powered applications.

The MongoDB R&D Engineering Technical Program Management team leads strategic R&D programs that unite teams to tackle the most complex challenges, advancing our company’s goals in order to deliver great products that our customers love.

Atlas Search is a multi-cloud service that allows users to execute complex full text and vector search queries using the MongoDB Query Language, enabling our users to focus on relevance and data retrieval instead of the machinery needed to search data at scale. The Atlas Search teams are building the cloud-based distributed systems software responsible for the core components of search and the lifecycle of search indexes.

As a Staff Technical Program Manager, you will own the successful delivery of complex, cross-functional engineering efforts for Atlas Search. You will partner closely with key Engineering, Product, and Product Design stakeholders to develop and execute against our overall product vision and business objectives, uncover solutions to technical challenges, and provide data-driven insights that power strategic decision-making.

This position is based out of our San Francisco office, with the possibility of working from another MongoDB office or remotely for the right candidate.

The right candidate for this role will be:
  • Experienced with 10+ years of working in an engineering organization leading complex cross-functional technical programs
  • Experienced with 5+ years of Software development background, preferably with large scale distributed systems and Cloud services
  • Able to partner with technical stakeholders in methodically breaking down engineering challenges to deliver against abstract goals
  • Able to participate in technical design discussions and summarize trade-offs, outcomes, and next steps
  • Skilled at communicating across a diverse set of engineers and stakeholders
  • Hyper-organized and capable of coordinating across multiple independent work streams and organizations
  • A role model for effective execution practices, driven by an attuned sense of priority and urgency
  • Able to leverage their experience in program delivery to influence improvements to our tools, operations, architecture
  • Trained in working with project tracking software (e.g. Jira, Rally, MS Project)
  • Familiar with MongoDB or a comparable technology
  • Interested in business automation work such as scripting in Python, Google Apps Script and Slack
Position Expectations:
  • Leverage technical acumen and analytical skills to drive engineering programs forward and maximize business value delivery
  • Recognize patterns in a sea of information and take action accordingly
  • Design, maintain, and improve the processes and tools that power program delivery
  • Build strategic partnerships with Product and Engineering stakeholders
  • Expand knowledge into new domains as called upon
  • Act as a mentor to junior TPMs and lead by example
  • In 3 months you will be ramped on the Atlas Search product and engineering roadmap
  • In 6 months you will own and drive critical initiatives across the Search portfolio
  • In 12 months you will be leading multiple high impact efforts and integrating improvements to frameworks for managing critical programs at MongoDB
