This Opportunity
WSP is currently initiating a search for a Lead Consultant, Geologist/Hydrogeologist for our Charlotte, North Carolina office to be a part of our Site Assessment and Remediation Earth & Environment Team . Become a part of our Team that meets our client’s objectives and solves their challenges by providing technical assistance and guidance for multi-phase environmental work processes, including but not limited to: site investigation and remediation, environmental due diligence, impact assessment, and environmental permitting.
This opportunity seeks a qualified candidate to provide high-level technical assistance and guidance for the collection, identification, compiling, and analysis of environmental data from various media (soil, groundwater, surface water, sediment, air/vapor). Requires that documentation and recommendations accurately describe the results of the analyses and address long-term risks to ecological and human health. Upholds responsibilities for projects to be delivered and adhered to with a level of quality that meets or exceeds acceptable industry standards. Provides project leadership, develops and implements corrective action strategies, and assists with recommendations to avert degradation of air, water, and land resources. The successful candidate should enjoy identifying new business opportunities and building successful client relationships.
Your Impact
- Conduct and manage environmental site assessments activities and reporting (Phase I and II).
- Lead site investigation, subsurface boring and trenching oversight, and monitoring of groundwater and extraction well installations.
- Ensure regulatory requirement compliance pertaining to data integrity, documentation, procedures, training, monitoring systems, and record compliance and retention.
- Prepare comprehensive technical reports and presentations that explain research, findings, and recommendations to prevent, control, remedy, or clean-up chemical and environmental problems and contamination.
- Analyze, evaluate, and interpret geologic, hydrogeologic, and chemical data obtained during field investigations, offering input with developing action plans for moderate- to high-level threat mitigation activities.
- Prepare and implement site Health and Safety Plans (HASPs).
- Interact with regulatory agencies, subcontractors, and clients in a confident and professional manner.
- Develop action plans for mid- to larger-scale pollution, corrosion, hazardous waste, and environmental control project and programs.
- Maintain quality control standards and procedures for accurate and precise measurements, statistical analysis, and reporting.
- Oversee and monitor cross-functional teams in executing project work.
- Collaborate with professionals from a variety of disciplines to provide future-ready solutions for clients.
- Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.

Who You Are
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Geology, Hydrogeology, or closely related discipline.
- 7 to 10 years of experience working as a Geologist.
- Proficient with geological research, investigation, technology, measurement tools, software, and techniques.
- Proficiency with the concepts of reducing and eliminating the use or generation of hazardous substances, processes, or products, and mitigation programs.
- Well-defined specific knowledge of relevant environmental laws, regulations, compliance practices, and record-keeping requirements.
- Experience sampling soil and groundwater via drilling including direct-push, hollow-stem auger, and other similar drilling methods.
- Project management experience with small to mid-level projects including tracking hours and expenses for project work.
- Experience in conducting Phase I and Phase II Environmental Site Assessments in accordance with ASTM guidelines and industry standards.
- Experience with UST investigations and remediation including investigation of hydrocarbon impacted sites.
- Experience with evaluation of vapor intrusion and sampling soil gas per DTSC and EPA guidelines.
- Experience installing groundwater monitoring wells, remediation wells, and soil gas wells.
- Experience writing groundwater monitoring reports and well installation reports.
- Highly effective interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others, expressing ideas effectively and professionally to a scientific and non-scientific audience.
- Demonstrated high-level of self-leadership with attention to detail, multi-tasking, and prioritization of responsibilities in a dynamic work environment.
- Works independently and provides guidance and leadership to junior team or project members, with strict adherence to QA/QC.
- Highly proficient with technical writing, office automation and communication software, technology, and tools.
- Well-developed critical thinking and problem-solving skills required to reach conclusions from testing results, data collation, and identify the most cost-effective responses that will minimize waste, prevent pollution, and conserve resources.
- Effective at coordinating and assertively directing others in the field such as subcontracted drillers, excavation contractors, utility locators, and others to consistently complete tasks safely and efficiently.
- Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
- Ability to work schedules conducive to project-specific requirements that may extend beyond the typical workweek.
- Occasional travel may be required depending on project-specific requirements.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master’s Degree is preferred.
- Essential professional licensure/certification.
- 40-Hour OSHA Health & Safety Training (HAZWOPER) (29 CFR 1910.120) preferred.
- Basic First Aid and Adult CPR training desired.
