We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Transportation Broker to join our dynamic team.

The transportation broker is a professional who acts as a liaison between shippers and freight carriers to negotiate rates, routes, and cargo. They are responsible for coordinating all aspects of the freight transportation process, including negotiating freight rates, finding and securing carriers, tracking shipments, and ensuring timely and safe delivery.

The transportation broker is responsible for performing daily "check calls" on loads in transit, handling customer-related issues and inquiries, and originating the necessary documentation for freight bills.

Description of Essential Duties & Responsibilities

· Act as an intermediary between shippers and carriers, sourcing transportation solutions that meet the needs of both parties.

· Identify and onboard reliable carriers, conducting thorough background checks and due diligence to ensure they meet safety and quality standards.

· Coordinate and schedule the movement of freight, considering factors such as cargo type, weight, dimensions, and delivery deadlines.

· Negotiate rates and contract terms with carriers to secure the best possible deals for our clients while maintaining profitability for the company.

· Build and maintain strong relationships with shippers and carriers, understanding their unique requirements and addressing any issues that may arise during transportation.

· Ensure compliance with all transportation regulations, permits, and licensing requirements for both carriers and shippers.

· Accurately prepare and manage all required paperwork, including bills of lading, freight bills, and shipping documents.

· Stay updated on industry trends, market rates, and changes in regulations to make informed decisions and remain competitive.

· Troubleshoot transportation-related problems and develop effective solutions to maintain smooth operations.

· Monitor carrier performance and maintain performance metrics to ensure service level agreements are met.

· Manage budgets and expenses related to transportation operations, ensuring cost-effectiveness and profitability.

Utilize transportation management software and other tools to optimize operations, track shipments, and provide real-time updates to clients.

Qualifications

Education / Training

· High school diploma or GED required

· Bachelor's degree in logistics, supply chain, business, or related field a Plus

Work Experience

Minimum of 5 years of experience in transportation and logistics

Knowledge of freight broker laws and regulations

Job Skills

  • Proficiency in freight management software
  • Strong understanding of transportation industry principles and practices
  • Excellent customer service and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously
  • Strong communication and negotiation skills
  • Highly organized with a keen attention to detail
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively

Additional Skills:

  • Negotiation skills

  • Logistics and transportation planning experience

  • Sales background, particularly in freight or logistics sales

  • Knowledge of supply chain management and transportation management

  • Strong customer relationship management and account management skills

  • Experience in B2B sales, preferably in transportation

  • Familiarity with transportation management systems and 3PL/NVOCC operations

  • Proficiency in contracts, carrier sales, pricing, and lead generation

Environmental Requirements

This position requires working in an office setting, long periods of time sitting. Must be able to stand, bend, push and pull at least up to 10 lbs.
